The Hamburg/ESO R-process Enhanced Star survey (HERES)

We report on a dedicated effort to identify and study metal-poor stars strongly enhanced in r-process elements ([r/Fe] > 1 dex; hereafter r-II stars), the Hamburg/ESO R-process Enhanced Star survey (HERES). Moderate-resolution (~2A) follow-up spectroscopy has been obtained for metal-poor giant candidates selected from the Hamburg/ESO objective-prism survey (HES) as well as the HK survey to identify sharp-lined stars with [Fe/H] < -2.5dex. For several hundred confirmed metal-poor giants brighter than B~16.5mag (most of them from the HES), ``snapshot'' spectra (R~20,000; S/N~30 per pixel) are being obtained with VLT/UVES, with the main aim of finding the 2-3% r-II stars expected to be a…

In this study, the influence of porosity on the elastic effective properties of polycrystalline materials is investigated using a 3D grain boundary micro mechanical model. The volume fraction of pores, their size and distribution can be varied to better simulate the response of real porous materials. The formulation is built on a boundary integral representation of the elastic problem for the grains, which are modeled as 3D linearly elastic orthotropic domains with arbitrary spatial orientation. Spatial representations of future in Homeric Greek

The aim of this paper is to investigate the space-time mapping of the future in Homeric Greek. It is widely accepted that the spatial adverbs πρόσσω ‘in front’ and ὀπίσσω ‘behind’ in the Homeric poems are used to portray temporal events located in a sequence of aligned entities that follow one after the other on the same path (Dunkel, 1983, p. 66). In such a temporal sequence, or Time-rp model, those adverbs are associated respectively to past and future events in a bipartite spatial representation of time, without involving a deictic ego-experiencer. Duality-invariant dispersion relations for electromagnetic and gravitational waves at Planck scales

In this paper we explore some mathematical aspects of a duality-invariant Einstein-Planck relation on electromagnetic waves and gravitational waves at a Planckian scale. We explore a generalized version of Maxwell's equations leading to the proposed duality-invariant dispersion relation for electromagnetic waves. We also study the analogous aspects of duality in a post-Newtonian description of gravitational waves.

Heavy-Ion-Induced Degradation in SiC Schottky Diodes : Incident Angle and Energy Deposition Dependence

Heavy-ion-induced degradation in the reverse leakage current of SiC Schottky power diodes exhibits a strong dependence on the ion angle of incidence. This effect is studied experimentally for several different bias voltages applied during heavy-ion exposure. In addition, TCAD simulations are used to give insight on the physical mechanisms involved. peerReviewed
Grid-Following and Grid-Forming MODELS in ATP-EMTP for Power Systems Simulation

The paper presents the models of grid-following and grid-forming converters in the software ATP-EMTP for power systems simulation. The models are developed using the MODELS language, they are described in details discussing all issues and aspects related to the implementation, and they are also shared as open source models. The models are validated with a simulation-based approach, comparing the results with the models developed in MATLAB/Simulink and in NEPLAN, considering both the phasor RMS and EMT time domains, and thus performing a comprehensive cross-platform and cross-domain validation. Dažādu modalitāšu praiminga ietekme uz patērētāju uzvedību

Nav salīdzinošo pētījumu par patērētāju uzvedības praimošanu audiālajā, vizuālajā, semantiskajā modalitātē. Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot, vai, praimojot patērētājus caur dažādām modalitātēm, tas ietekmē viņu pirkšanas uzvedību. Datu ievākšanai tika īstenoti trīs pētījumi: pilotpētījums (piedalījās 125 respondenti) eksperiments Nr. 1 (203 respondenti) un eksperiments Nr. 2 (56 respondenti). Eksperimentos tika manipulēts ar četriem praimiem trīs modalitātēs, ar un bez iejaukšanās uzdevuma. Neviens no izvēlētajiem praimiem neietekmēja patērētāju uzvedību. Tomēr vāju ietekmi uzrādīja iejaukšanās uzdevums. Netika gūts apstiprinājums, ka iejaukšanās uzdevums mediē praimošanu, tas iedarbojās ne…
