Pharmacokinetic Characterization and External Evaluation of a Quantitative Framework of Sublingual Buprenorphine in Patients with an Opioid Disorder …
2020
Background: The aim of this analysis was to characterize the pharmacokinetics (PK) of sublingual buprenorphine (BUP) and its metabolites (buprenorphine glucuronide
Spanish Menopause Society position statement: Use of denosumab in postmenopausal women
2014
Denosumab is a new drug developed for the treatment of osteoporosis. Moreover, increasing evidences link denosumab with benefits in cancer, an area of interest for those in charge of the postmenopausal health. Denosumab has shown efficacy in the control of bone loss associated with hypogonadic states created by chemotherapy in breast and other cancers. Moreover, some studies reveal efficacy in reducing the progression of metastases. A panel of experts from the Spanish Menopause Society has met to develop usage recommendations based on the best available evidence.
Modeling recurrent distributions in streams using possible worlds
2015
Discovering changes in the data distribution of streams and discovering recurrent data distributions are challenging problems in data mining and machine learning. Both have received a lot of attention in the context of classification. With the ever increasing growth of data, however, there is a high demand of compact and universal representations of data streams that enable the user to analyze current as well as historic data without having access to the raw data. To make a first step towards this direction, we propose a condensed representation that captures the various — possibly recurrent — data distributions of the stream by extending the notion of possible worlds. The representation en…
Post extractive implant: evaluation of the critical aspects
2017
Purpose Nowadays, implant supported prosthetic rehabilitation is a reliable procedure to replace compromised or untreatable teeth. The purpose of this review is to explore the concept of post extractive implant and the indications for clinical practice through an analysis of recent studies in the literature. All the main factors that could influence the outcome of this treatment will also be considered. Materials and methods Focusing on the extraction-socket healing time, three different implant insertion protocols have been defined: Immediate implant placement (IIP), Early implant placement (EIP), Delayed implant placement (DIP). The entity of bone remodeling can be associated with differe…
Characterization of inductors in partial saturation for SMPS applications
2017
The exploitation of partially saturated inductors in Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) is a key strategy for reducing the size of SMPS and increasing their power density [1]. However an accurate characterization and modellization of each inductor is needed for a correct design and control of the SMPS [2]. Most of inductors' datasheets only indicate the nominal inductance at low current. Anyway, when the inductor is subjected to a higher current, the value of the inductance is lessened. Moreover, inductance meters often actuate their measurements at no or moderate DC bias. In this work we describe the realization of an automated test bench (Fig. 1) for characterizing an inductor under varia…
How pre-service teachers perceive their 21st-century skills and dispositions : A longitudinal perspective
2021
Research-based discussions about 21st-century skills are currently needed; 21st-century skills refer to skills that today's students are expected to possess for successful future careers. The ways students perceive these skills or what kind of dispositions they have in this regard are significant. This paper provides an overview of the development of pre-service teachers' perceived 21st-century skills and dispositions. The quantitative data was collected in three phases during 2014, 2015, and 2016 at three Finnish universities. The number of respondents at each measurement point varied from 209 to 267. Data were analysed using latent growth curve modeling. The study focuses on students' per…
Modelling biological and chemically induced precipitation of calcium phosphate in enhanced biological phosphorus removal systems
2011
The biologically induced precipitation processes can be important in wastewater treatment, in particular treating raw wastewater with high calcium concentration combined with Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal. Currently, there is little information and experience in modelling jointly biological and chemical processes. This paper presents a calcium phosphate precipitation model and its inclusion in the Activated Sludge Model No 2d (ASM2d). The proposed precipitation model considers that aqueous phase reactions quickly achieve the chemical equilibrium and that aqueous-solid change is kinetically governed. The model was calibrated using data from four experiments in a Sequencing Batch Rea…
Measuring perceived community support: Factorial structure, longitudinal invariance, and predictive validity of the PCSQ (perceived community support…
2007
Social support from intimate and confiding relationships has received a great deal of attention; however, the study of the community as a relevant source of support has been comparatively lacking. In this article, we present a multidimensional measure of community support (Perceived Community Support Questionnaire, PCSQ). Through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses on data from three samples of adult population (two-wave panel: sample 1, N = 1009 and sample 2, N = 780; and an independent sample 3, N = 440), results show that community integration, community participation, and use of community organizations are reliable indicators of the underlying construct of perceived community s…
Trait self-control and self-discipline : Structure, validity, and invariance across national groups
2021
The aim of the present study was to test the validity of the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS; Tangney, Baumeister and Boone 2004) including its dimensional structure based on competing one- and two-factor models, discriminant validity from the conceptually-related self-discipline construct, invariance across multiple samples from different national groups, and predictive validity with respect to health-related behaviors. Samples of undergraduate students (total N = 1282) from four national groups completed the brief self-control scale, the self-discipline scale from the NEO-PI-R, and self-report measures of binge drinking, exercise, and healthy eating. Confirmatory factor analytic models sup…
Aslian linguistic prehistory: A case study in computational phylogenetics
2011
This paper analyzes newly collected lexical data from 26 languages of the Aslian subgroup of the Austroasiatic language family using computational phylogenetic methods. We show the most likely topology of the Aslian family tree, discuss rooting and external relationships to other Austroasiatic languages, and investigate differences in the rates of diversification of different branches. Evidence is given supporting the classification of Jah Hut as a fourth top level subgroup of the family. The phylogenetic positions of known geographic and linguistic outlier languages are clarified, and the relationships of the little studied Aslian languages of Southern Thailand to the rest of the family ar…
