Vanadyl phosphate dihydrate, a solid acid: the role of water in VOPO42H2O and its sodium derivatives Na x (VIV x VV 1?x O)PO4(2?x)H2O

1988

Sodium-containing intercalates having as general formula Na x VOPOP4·(2−x)H2O (0.25≤x<0.50) have been obtained and characterized. Orthorhombic phases, which essentially maintain the structure of the layered oxide hydrate VOPO4·2H2O result. Intercalated sodium ions act as ‘pillars’. The presence of H3O+ ions in the parent VOPO4·2H2O and also in some reduced phases, is detected. The understanding of the structural role of the water molecules is advanced and the topotactic dehydration/rehydration processes are studied. The formation of a new metastable VOPO4·H2O phase is established.

Solvatochromy and symmetry breaking in two quadrupolar oligophenylenevinylenes

2020

Electrooptical absorption measurements (EOAM), solvatochromic dependences and quantum chemical simulations testify to large dipole moments change of two quadrupolar oligophenylenevinylenes upon transition to Franck-Condon excited state μeFC. The values of the dipole moments μg and μeFC are in the range [(4.2 - 4.9)1030] C m and (30.8 - 47.0)1030C m, respectively. The relations of dipole moments in the ground and excited states determined by EOAM correlate well with results obtained via the solvatochromic method. Calculations carried out by density functional theory (DFT) show that optimized configuration of the ground state of these molecules is not planar. The results from all methods appl…

Thermodynamics of the spin transition in [FexZn1−x(2-pic)3]Cl2 · EtOH

1992

Abstract With a new type of calorimeter we reinvestigated the specific heat Cp of the mixed crystals [FexZni1−x(2-pic)3]Cl2 · EtOH in the temperature range from 15 to 300 K. On the basis of a phenomenological thermodynamic model the anomaly in the Cp(T) curve of the mixed crystal (x = 0.73) can be quantitatively described as a result of the spin transition (1A1(low spin, LS) → 5T2(high spin, HS)). The parameters of the Gibbs free energy were independently derived from the temperature dependence of the HS fraction γ in [FexZn1−x(2-pic)3]Cl2 · EtOH. The pure iron complex (x = 1) exhibits a two-step spin transition. In the temperature range between the two steps the entropy obtained from the C…

Metallophilic interactions in stacked dinuclear rhodium 2,2'-biimidazole carbonyl complexes

2012

Non-covalent metallophilic interactions were studied by investigating the stacking of two neutral rhodium complexes [Rh2I(R2bim)Cl2(CO)4] (R = Et, ethyl or Pr, propyl) in the solid state. Both dinuclear complexes formed infinite arrays of square planar d8 rhodium centres with intramolecular Rh⋯Rh distances of 3.1781(5) A (R = Et) and 3.1469(3) A (R = Pr) and the intermolecular Rh⋯Rh distances of 3.4345(6) A (R = Et) and 3.4403(3) A (R = Pr) between the adjacent molecules. The crystalline solids were stable and did not contain any solvent of crystallization. The effect of the metallophilic interactions on the absorption properties were studied using TD-DFT methods. The computational results …

Asymmetric and Symmetric Dicopper(II) Paddle-Wheel Units with Modified Nucleobases

2015

New copper(II) paddle-wheel complexes with different modified nucleobases and simple molecules in the axial positions have been prepared by direct reactions between copper(II) salts and the corresponding uracil- or thymine-1-acetic acids under inert atmosphere to produce the two homoleptic complexes, [Cu2(μ-OOCCH2-T)4(G)2] and [Cu2(μ-OOCCH2-U)4(G)2], and the heteroleptic one [Cu2(μ-OOCCH2-T)2(μ-OOCCH2-U)2(G)2] (where OOCCH2-T = thymine-1-acetate, OOCCH2-U = uracil-1-acetate, and G = dimethylformamide, water, dimethylacetamide, or dimethyl sulfoxide). Interestingly, the crystal structures of this family of closely related molecules present significant differences in their supramolecular arra…

Synthesis ofo-thiatelluraphenylenezirconocenes. X-ray crystal structure of

1992

o-Thiatelluraphenylenezirconocene complexes were obtained in good yield by reaction of dilithiumo-benzenthiatelluride with zirconocene dichlorides. These compounds represent the first examples of heterodichalcogenaphenylene bent metallocences. They were characterized by spectroscopic methods and the effect on the n.m.r. results of stepwise substitution of one and two Te atoms for S is discussed.

Tautomerism and the Protonation/Deprotonation of Isocytosine in Liquid- and Solid-States Studied by NMR Spectroscopy and Theoretical Calculations

2011

Isocytosine crystallizes as a 1:1 ratio of two tautomers in a manner similar to that of the guanine and cytosine pairs in DNA. The solid-state NMR chemical shifts of crystalline neutral isocytosine, the sodium salt of isocytosine, and those of isocytosine hydrochloride were measured and related to the NMR parameters in aqueous and organic solutions. The experimental chemical shifts were compared with those calculated by three different methods: (1) calculations on isolated molecules, (2) calculations on isocytosine clusters of various sizes, and (3) infinite crystal calculations, that is, the gauge-including projector-augmented wave (GIPAW) method. The data obtained with the GIPAW method we…

Novel chiral three-dimensional iron(III) compound exhibiting magnetic ordering at T(c) = 40 K.

2002

The preparation and crystal structure determination of the iron(III) compound of formula [(NH(4))(2)[Fe(2)O(ox)(2)Cl(2)].2H(2)O](n) (1) (ox = oxalate dianion) are reported here. Complex 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Fdd2, with a = 14.956(7) A, b = 23.671(9) A, c = 9.026(4) A, and Z = 8. The structure of complex 1 consists of the chiral anionic three-dimensional network [Fe(2)O(ox)(2)Cl(2)](2-) where the iron(III) ions are connected by single oxo and bisbidentate oxalato groups. The metal-metal separations through these bridging ligands are 3.384(2) and 5.496(2) A, respectively. Ammonium cations and crystallization water molecules are located in the helical pseudohex…

Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Properties of Multicomponent Bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene Charge-Transfer Salts of the [Mo3S7Br6]2- Cluster

2005

A new family of bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (ET) radical salts has been prepared in the presence of a triangular molybdenum sulfide cluster of formula [Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ] 2 - , which contains highly electrophilic axialsulfur atoms. A systematic change in the experimental conditions yields five different salts, namely (ETA)2(ET B )[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ] 2 . CH 2 Br 2 (1), (ETA)(ET B )Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ].1.1CH 2 Br 2 (2), (ETA)(ETB)(ET C ){[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ]Br}.0.5C 2 H 4 Cl 2 (3), (ET)((n-Bu 4 )N)-[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ] (4), and (ET)(Ph4P)[Mo 3 S 7 Br 6 ].0.5CH 3 CN (5), where the ET subscript denotes crystallographically independent molecules. The five compounds have been structurally characterized, a…
