Spelling out consequences : conditional constructions as a means to resist proposals in organisational planning process

Organisational planning processes often materialise as a series of meetings, where the future of the organisation is jointly discussed and negotiated as a part of local decision-making sequences. Using conversation and discourse analytical approaches, this article investigates how proposals concerning the future can also be resisted by employing a specific device, a conditional construction ( if X, then Y). Students’ Interpretations of a Persuasive Multimodal Video About Vaccines

The present study investigated students’ (N = 404) interpretations of the main message and use of modes in a persuasive multimodal video on vaccines. It also examined whether students’ topic knowledge, language arts grades, and self-identified gender were associated with their interpretations. Students analyzed a YouTube video in which two entertainers demonstrated the importance of vaccinating children. Students’ interpretations of the usefulness of vaccines varied in terms of quality of reasoning, which was associated with students’ topic knowledge. Reflecting on work processes together with one's co-workers is becoming increasingly important in workplaces. This study examined collaborative reflection in the organizational context through analyzing a case of a complex workplace setting where an enterprise social media platform, talk-in-interaction, and handwriting were used to engage participants in the process of reflection. Abstract This paper focuses on how signing students organise themselves spatially in social interactions in a university lecture hall. One may view space as a concrete location, a social construct, and a normative actor with historical trajectories. Augmented reality (AR) picturebooks combine printed children's literature with augmented reality. This study examines the shared reading of the Finnish AR picturebook Mur, eli karhu (2016) by Kaisa Happonen and Anne Vasko. The main aim of the study is to explore the playful reading experience of three Finnish families with children between the ages of 4 and 6. Three main categories of engagement with the book are discussed in the article: interpretation, negotiation, and play. Viittomakielen tulkkeja on koulutettu Suomessa jo vuodesta 1978 lähtien. Ammattikorkeakoulutasolla tulkkikoulutusta on ollut yli kaksikymmentä vuotta. Humanistinen ammattikorkeakoulu (Humak) ja Diakonia-ammattikorkeakoulu kouluttavat viittomakielen tulkkeja ja niillä on yhteinen ylempi ammattikorkeakoulututkinto. Humakista valmistuu vuosittain noin 35 tulkkia. Viime vuosina tulkiksi valmistuminen on nähty kuitenkin riskialttiina, koska muutokset tulkkauspalvelun järjestämisessä ja laajemmin yhteiskunnassa ovat luoneet haasteita työllistymiselle.
