Improvement of solubility and biocompatibility of MnO based nanoparticles in aqueous solutions

2011

ABSTRACTMnO nanoparticles were surface modified using two different multifunctional polymers. By introducing a PEG group, the long term stability, MRI applicability and sterile filtration could be greatly improved. Furthermore, PEGylated MnO NPs were less toxic compared to non-PEGylated NPs. The results suggest that these nanoparticles are suitable for in vivo applications.

Nanoparticle Vesicles Through Self Assembly of Cyclodextrin- and Adamantyl-Modified Silica

2010

Stable nanoparticle vesicles were for the first time prepared from adamantyl- and cyclodextrin (CD)-modified silica nanoparticles forming host-guest interactions in aqueous solution. Adamantyl-functionalized nanoparticles were obtained from thiol-isocyanate reaction of thiol-modified nanoparticles with 1-adamantyl isocyanate. The CD modified silica particles were isolated from a reaction of mono-6-para-toluenesulfonyl-β-cyclodextrin with the thiol functionalized silica under microwave conditions in basic media. The obtained particles were characterized in respect of agglomeration and self-assembly behavior in aqueous solution by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy.…

Water-soluble, cyclodextrin-functionalized semiconductor nanocrystals: Preparation and pH-dependent aggregation and emission properties

2009

Abstract Using peramino-functionalized β-cyclodextrin molecules for phase.transfer of hydrophobic CdSe multishell nanocrystals into water, we obtained hydrophilic nanoparticles with high quantum yield (up to 50%). At pH > 9, the aqueous solution of these nanocrystals remained stable for several months. The nanoparticles showed a strong influence of the pH of the aqueous solution on the emission of the nanocrystals: the quantum yield varied reversible from ∼10% at pH=6 to ∼50% at pH=14, an effect which according to particle size characterization by dynamic light-scattering and asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation has mainly been attributed to reversible partial aggregation of the hydroph…

Polyaspartamide-graft- Polymethacrylate Nanoparticles for Doxorubicin Delivery

2011

A new PHEA-IB-PMANa + copolymer has been synthesized and its pH-induced self-assembly has been investigated in an aqueous medium. PHEA-IB-PMANa + formed nanoparticles with diameters from 25 to 50 nm upon protonation of the carboxylic acid moieties dislocated along the grafted polymethacrylate sodium salt side chains. The physico-chemical characterization of the nanoparticles was performed using light scattering, zeta-potential measurements, SEM, and AFM. Doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles were prepared and drug release profiles were evaluated under conditions mimicking physiological media. A biological characterization was carried out by testing the cytotoxicity on Caco-2 cells, and cellular …

A simple method to prepare solid nanoparticles of water-soluble salts using water-in-oil microemulsions

2000

A new and simple method to prepare solid nanoparticles of water-soluble salts using water-in-oil microemulsions is described. In particular, starting from water/sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate/n-heptane microemulsions carrying inside the aqueous core of the reversed micelles some water-soluble salts [CaCl2, Na2HPO4, Cu(NO3)2], after evaporation of the volatile components (water and apolar organic solvent), the resulting inorganic salt/surfactant composites were found to be totally dispersible in pure n-heptane. The presence of nanoparticles in these resuspended composites was ascertained by transmission electron microscopy observation of samples obtained by gentle evaporation of the …

Atomistic Simulations of Functional Au_{144}(SR)_{60} Gold Nanoparticles in Aqueous Environment

2012

Charged monolayer-protected gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been studied in aqueous solution by performing atomistic molecular dynamics simulations at physiological temperature (310 K). Particular attention has been paid to electrostatic properties that modulate the formation of a complex comprised of the nanoparticle together with surrounding ions and water. We focus on Au-144 nanoparticles that comprise a nearly spherical Au core (diameter similar to 2 nm), a passivating Au-S interface, and functionalized alkanethiol chains. Cationic and anionic AuNPs have been modeled with amine and carboxyl terminal groups and Cl-/Na+ counterions, respectively. The radial distribution functions show tha…

Boehmite Supported Pyrene Polyamine Systems as Probes for Iodide Recognition

2013

New organic–inorganic fluorescent probes made by attaching the tripodal polyamine (tris(2-aminoethyl))amine (tren), propylamine, or diethylenetriamine functionalized with pyrene as a fluorophore to an γ-aluminum oxohydroxide matrix have been prepared and studied both in solution and supported on the surface of boehmite nanoparticles. Both kinds of systems have been revealed as sensitive and selective fluorescence turn-off chemosensors for iodide in aqueous solution with an estimated detection limit that reaches 36 ppb. The recognition characteristics and photophysical properties of these molecules are essentially preserved when they are grafted to the surface of the particles. Since the nan…

Electrical treeing in EVA-bohemite and EVA-montmorillonite nanocomposites

2009

The present experimental work focuses on the growth of electrical treeing inside different Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) nanocomposites containing Bohemite (an aluminum oxide hydroxide) and Montmorillonite (a phyllosilicate clay mineral) nanoparticles. Bohemite and Montmorillonite particles have different aspect ratios: the first one has a nanometric cube-like symmetry, while the latter has a typical layered structure. The results evidence that the growth of the electrical treeing inside the original polymer can be altered significantly by the dispersion of inorganic nanoparticles.

Hybrid methacrylate monolithic columns containing magnetic nanoparticles for capillary electrochromatography

2015

Abstract Vinylized iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (VMNPs) were incorporated into polymethacrylate monolithic columns to develop novel stationary phases with enhanced separation performance. The VMNPs were dispersed in a polymerization mixture containing gycidyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as monomers, cyclohexanol and 1-dodecanol as porogens and azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. The stability of the VMNPs in the polymerization mixture was investigated at several VMNP contents. Using short UV-polymerization times, polymeric beds with homogenously dispersed VMNPs were obtained. The novel stationary phases were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The chroma…

Functionalization of TiO2Nanoparticles with Semiconducting Polymers Containing a Photocleavable Anchor Group and Separation via Irradiation Afterward

2014

The controlled radical polymerization (RAFT polymerization) of semiconducting polymers based on poly(4,4′-dimethyl-triphenylamine) is described. These polymers are afterward end-functionalized with a photocleavable group and an anchor unit (catechol) for oxidic nanoparticles (NPs). Serving as a reference, polystyrene oligomers with the same end groups are also synthesized. Using these polymers allows functionalization of the TiO2-NPs, leading to an improved solubility and miscibility in organic solvents or polymer matrices. Irradiation in the UV region is used to split the photocleavable group and remove the polymer chains from the NPs, which leads to their aggregation.
