Reflections on co-teaching multilingual university-level language and communication courses
2021

The Hungarian writer of the Lost Time : memory and poetical imitation in Krúdy Gyula’s work
2015
Gyula Krúdy’s (1878-1933) oeuvre admittedly represents a peculiar kind of conundrum within the confines of literary modernism in Hungarian literature. While the most significant authors of the early 20th century drew inspiration from Western European literary forms and preferred to distance their works from previous prose traditions, Krúdy’s fiction remained closely linked to those narrative forms inherent to 19th century Hungarian prose. His motive for continuing to use these narrative forms did not stem from a blind desire to follow tradition, but rather originated from a conscious effort to renew and reform the heritage bequeathed upon him by past authors. Thus, the strange dichotomy tha…
Graffiti as a Palimpsest
2018
Graffiti can be viewed as stories about embodied identities of the self and others which can be shared in intersubjective discourse, visual communication of varying content and motives, and utilizing specific technology and mediums. Graffiti’s palimpestuous nature, in its physical and symbolic forms of layering information, is present in production and perceiving graffiti. A creator and a reader of graffiti are both palimpsesting the work, acting as narrators of their own mental sheets. The concept of graffiti as a palimpsest can be exemplified for example in graffiti art where the interpretation of a work of art depends on the properties of the work, the perceiver and the social and instit…
Learning to survive amidst nested crises: can the coronavirus pandemic help us change educational practices to prepare for the impending eco-crisis?
2021
The ongoing ecological crisis and the more recent Coronavirus crisis challenge the grand narrative of Enlightenment that human beings are ‘masters of nature’. For millennia, human social learning has allowed Homo sapiens to outpace most of our competitor creatures and live a comfortable life, but this competitive success has resulted in cataclysmic failure for the ecosystem. However, people’s unique ability to learn gives us hope that we can overcome the nested crises, or learn to live with them. What is required is not more knowledge, but instead, collective learning to change practices, institutionalized in educational processes. Drawing on the theory of practice architectures, this paper…
Stakeholder expectations : conceptual foundations and empirical analysis
2015
Expectations are an inseparable part of interaction, whether in interpersonal, intragroup, or organization–stakeholder relations. As a concept, expectations appear frequently in the public relations literature, yet definitions are scarce or narrow. This thesis contributes to the conceptual and empirical understanding of expectations in the context of organization–stakeholder relations and, more specifically, studies how organizations translate their societal roles and how stakeholders form expectations of these roles. The theoretical framework is drawn from Scandinavian institutionalism and corporate responsibility as social connectedness that, first, places organization–stakeholder relatio…
Initial support teachers training through Mcdrury & Alterio’s storytelling model storytelling methodology. A research in the laboratories of the spec…
2019
Creating digital stories provides with important opportunities to practice and master a number of specific 21st-century skills, content, and technology standards. Storytelling has been extensively used in children’s education as a valuable and creative tool, however, its use in the higher education process has been less common and this paper proposes that storytelling can be used as an effective reflective tool in higher education. Digital storytelling is essentially the application of technology to this age-old experience of sharing personal narratives and seeking to teach and learn from them. What is different, and what makes these digital stories so potentially powerful, is the availabil…
Interrelating agency, autonomy and identity in foreign language learning
2014
Foreign language (FL) learning is increasingly examined in terms of the language learning person’s agency, autonomy and identity. What agency refers to in FL learning and how it relates to autonomy and identity nevertheless remains unclear. As theoretical discussions about the interconnections are ambiguous, more empirical evidence is needed. The present article addresses this need, contributing to a fuller understanding of the three notions in FL education. The article explores one student’s FL learning in a general upper secondary school for adults (GUSSA), analysing her language narratives, which refer to her storied, FL related experiences. The findings suggest that agency can be concep…
Identità in transizione.
Audience involvement in creative media for development: Making sense of the semiotic interface
2017
This article explores the role that semiotic communication plays in the generation of narrative affect. It also draws on Suruchi Sood’s concept of audience involvement as being capable of increasing self-efficacy and collective-efficacy, both of which are crucial to behaviour change. It therefore, demonstrates how semiotic tropes are used in creative media narratives to elicit affect and in turn generate authentic audience involvement with the subjects of those narratives, a process which eventually has positive consequences for behaviour change communication. Hence, these narratives fueled by semiotics, become the threshing floor where potential audiences are drawn into pro-social discours…
