Seasonal-variation of nitrogenous compounds in the xylem sap of citrus

1983

Samples of tracheal sap of Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Washington Navel were taken from field trees throughout the year and the nitrogen composition of the sap was determined. The nitrogenous fraction of the sap was composed mainly of free amino acids (92–97% of total nitrogen) and nitrates throughout the year. Proline was the most abundant amino acid during almost the entire cycle, and its concentration was especially high during the autumn and winter period. Nevertheless, a significant part (40–60%) of the total organic nitrogen was transported as arginine. Total nitrogen as well as amino acids and nitrates were maximal at spring flush. At spring flush and summer flush there was also …

Solution properties of polyelectrolytes

1991

Abstract Chromatographic data for sodium polystyrene sulphonate were obtained on both silica- and polymer-based size-exclusion supports using mobile phases of various pH and ionic strength. Deviations of the elution volume were observed towards both lower and higher values relative to the reference calibration graph obtained with uncharged standards. An empirical correlation is proposed in order to account for all the secondary effects observed. The general applicability of this correlation was further tested for chromatographic data obtained for a series of peptides and proteins on a silica-based support under very different eluent conditions. Deviations from ideal elution behaviour such a…

Well water quality in Latvia

1996

A total of 2500 water samples from drinking water shallow wells and boreholes in rural areas of Latvia were collected. The samples were analyzed for 20 parameters. Well waters in Latvia can be characterized by a high content of organic (humic) substances. Mean values for analyzed water parameters are: 0.17 mg/1 NH4, 0.016 mg/1 NO2, 2.90 mg/1 NO3, 0.028 mg/1 PO4, 25.53 mg/1 Cl, 0.12 mg/1 Fe, 7.4 pH, 784 μ/cm conductivity, 24 degrees in PtCo scale color, 7.5 mgequiv/1 total hardness. Comparison with water quality criteria adopted in the USA and European Communiy indicate that water quality is often unsatisfactory. For example, nitrate concentrations exceed standards in nearly 20% of the surve…

Apparent molar volumes of strontium nitrate and copper(II) chloride in ethanol + water at 298.15 K

1998

Densities of ethanol + water + strontium nitrate and ethanol + water + copper(II) chloride mixtures have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter over a large range of concentrations of the salt and ethanol, at 298.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes of both electrolytes in ethanol + water mixtures have been calculated, and partial molar volumes at infinite dilution have been evaluated.

The geometry of the silver 1,1′-dibenzyl-2,2′-biimidazole complexes

2013

Abstract The argentophilic interactions and interactions of weakly coordinated nitrate and water with silver metal were studied by investigating the reaction of 1,1′-dibenzyl-2,2′-biimidazole (Bn2bim) with silver nitrate. Three new silver complexes [Ag4(Bn2bim)4(NO3)2]·4(CH3CH2OH)·2(NO3)·0.5(H2O) (1), [Ag4(Bn2bim)4(H2O)4]·4(NO3) (2) and [Ag4(Bn2bim)4(NO3)4]·6(CH2Cl2)·2(H2O) (3) were synthesized and characterized. Complexes 1-3 have rare tetranuclear twisted closed cyclic structure with four bridging biimidazoles and variable nitrate/water ratio. The interactions between the nitrate ligand and Ag as well as water ligands and Ag are considered to be weak due to the ease of exchanging them. Th…

Eliciting callus culture for production of hepatoprotective flavonoids and phenolics from Sequoia sempervirens (D. Don Endl)

2020

The aim of our study is to estimate the hepatoprotective effects of the ethanolic extract of the leaves of Sequoia sempervirens by determination of liver biomarkers (ALT, AST, total bilirubin and albumin in serum) and by histopathological examinations using thioacetamide-induced (TAA) liver injury model. Concurrent administration of ethanolic extracts of S. sempervirens leaves improved the alterations in liver morphology where it was a potent protector of the liver. The potential of L-phenylalanine and silver nitrate as chemical elicitors as well as UV radiation as a physical elicitor on flavonoid production in callus culture of S. sempervirens were emphasized. Murashige and Skoog’s medium …

Effect of the crystallization on the phase transitions IV ⇐ III and IV ⇐ II of ammonium nitrate

1993

Abstract The solid state phase transition path of ammonium nitrate is influenced by the manner of crystallization. Slow crystallization from water gives ideal crystals, which behaved differently from crystals prepared by rapid crystallization from the melt.

‘Interrupted’ diazotization of 3-aminoindoles and 3-aminopyrroles

2014

Abstract ‘Interrupted’ diazotization of 3-aminoindoles and 3-aminopyrroles, achieved by quenching with cold water immediately after the addition of nitrite, led, in good yields, to stable compounds whose structures were identified to be the diazonium species with nitrate as the counter ion, which show no saline character.
