In the middle ages, particularly between the 10th – 14th centuries, the Diocese of Salerno was among the most important ones in southern Italy. Its earliest records date back to the late 5th century and during the 10th it was elevated to archdiocese; so the city of Salerno became the center of a large diocese, among the largest of Southern Italy. This essay reconstructs the history of diocese and its public symbols (like the cathedral), demonstrating consistency with that of other Italian dioceses but, at the same time, also highlighting some specifi city resulting from more general historical dynamics of Salerno and the role it played in the southern part of Italy.

Con l'arrivo dei Normanni nell'XI secolo, l'invio dei legati apostolici fu fortemente osteggiato dal potere secolare. Per questo motivo, le sfere di competenza tra il papa e i normanni furono definite da accordi e concessioni reciproche: il punto di partenza fu il rilascio del privilegio dell'Apostolica Legazia (1098). This paper concerns twelfth- and thirteenth-century deeds drawn up in Greek in an area where the hellenophone presence was deeply rooted. The Church and Greek monastic institutions continued to exert widespread influence, and the Byzantine cultural tradition was even more persistent. Document analysis supports two interpretive paths from which multilingual phenomena can be singled out and studied. (1) Social interactions. Through these legal transactions social interaction are represented through writing in one of the three official languages of the kingdom, Greek, Latin or Arabic. (2) The language of the documents. Tutkimus käsittelee kuuluisan YouTube-tähti Normanin tapaa puhutella katsojiaan. Puhuttelutavat, suhde osapuolten välillä sekä muutos puhuttelutavoissa ajan kuluessa ovat tutkimuksen tärkeimpiä aiheita. Niitä lähestytään sosiaalisen deiksiksen kautta, ja tarkempana tutkimuskohteena ovat katsojiin kohdistuvat persoonapronominit sekä imperatiivimuodot, sillä ne kuvastavat hyvin vuorovaikutussuhteita ihmisten välillä ja niitä esiintyy Normanin videoissa runsaasti. Aineiston valinta perustuu paitsi satunnaisuuteen, myös tutkimuksen kannalta välttämättömään, ehdolliseen materiaalin valintaan. Kaikissa aineistoon valituissa neljässä videossa esiintyy suoria tapoja puhutella yleisöä sanallisesti. …
