Problem normatywności w pedagogice wynika wprost ze struktury tej dyscypliny wiedzy. Wbrew obiegowym opiniom, formułowanie celów wychowania wcale nie musi przekreślać możliwości ich empirycznego uzasadniania. Należy bowiem odróżniać normatywność na płaszczyźnie metateoretycznej od normatywności na płaszczyźnie teoretycznej.
