Measurement of the π0, η, η′ Transition Form Factors at BABAR

2013

Abstract Measurements of the transition form factors of the pseudoscalar mesons π 0 , η, η ′ have been carried out by the BABAR collaboration at the SLAC B-factory PEP-II. The form factors F ( Q 2 ) were measured in two-photon processes covering the kinematic range 4 GeV 2 Q 2 40 GeV 2 . For the π 0 form factor, results are significantly higher than predicted by Brodsky and Lepage assuming an asymptotic distribution amplitude. Data also suggest that the asymptotic regime of QCD is reached only at relatively high Q 2 . We also report on measurements of the η and η ′ transition form factors, which happen to feature a significantly different Q 2 behaviour than the one of the neutral pion.

Alignment for the first precision measurements at Belle II

2019

On March 25th 2019, the Belle II detector recorded the first collisions delivered by the SuperKEKB accelerator. This marked the beginning of the physics run with vertex detector. The vertex detector was aligned initially with cosmic ray tracks without magnetic field simultaneously with the drift chamber. The alignment method is based on Millepede II and the General Broken Lines track model and includes also the muon system or primary vertex position alignment. To control weak modes, we employ sensitive validation tools and various track samples can be used as alignment input, from straight cosmic tracks to mass-constrained decays. With increasing luminosity and experience, the alignment is …

The Ratio R of hadronic and electronic Z widths and the strong coupling constant alpha-s

1994

Abstract We review the relation between the ratio of hadronic and electronic Z widths, R = Γ( Z → q q )/Γ( Z → e + e − ) and the strong coupling constant at the Z mass, αs. The theoretical uncertainty of αs derived from R is estimated to be Δα s = ±0.002 (electroweak) ± 0.002 (QCD) −0.003 +0.004 (m top , m Higgs ) .

Determination of the strong coupling constant from the inclusive jet cross section inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2009

We determine the strong coupling constant alpha(s) and its energy dependence from the p(T) dependence of the inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at s=1.96 TeV. The strong coupling constant is determined over the transverse momentum range 50 < p(T)< 145 GeV. Using perturbative QCD calculations to order O(alpha(3)(s)) combined with O(alpha(4)(s)) contributions from threshold corrections, we obtain alpha(s)(M-Z)=0.1161(-0.0048)(+0.0041). This is the most precise result obtained at a hadron-hadron collider.

Test of chiral perturbation theory in η decays

1994

The decay of the η-meson into three pions plays an important role as a test of low-energy QCD calculations in the framework of chiral perturbation theory. Previous experiments show results that are inconclusive or even contradictory. The Crystal Barrel experiment at LEAR has determined the braching ratiosΓ(η→3π0)/Γ(η→π+π−π0)=1.47±0.09±0.15 andΓ(η→γγ)/Γ(η→π+π−π0)=1.88±0.10±0.17 using its unique features to detect charged particles as well as neutral particles. The value for the first ratio agrees nicely with the theoretical predictions and solves previous experimental uncertainties. The second value, which yields a partial width ofΓ(η→π+π−π0)=(0.24±0.03) keV, shows that the same next-to-lead…

Production of inclusive ϒ(1S) and ϒ(2S) in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

2015

We report on the production of inclusive Y{hooktop}(1S) and Y{hooktop}(2S) in p-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV at the LHC. The measurement is performed with the ALICE detector at backward (-4.46<ycms<-2.96) and forward (2.03<ycms<3.53) rapidity down to zero transverse momentum. The production cross sections of the Y{hooktop}(1S) and Y{hooktop}(2S) are presented, as well as the nuclear modification factor and the ratio of the forward to backward yields of Y{hooktop}(1S). A suppression of the inclusive Y{hooktop}(1S) yield in p-Pb collisions with respect to the yield from pp collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions is observed at forward rapidity but not at backwar…

Study of thee+e−→K+K−reaction in the energy range from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV

2015

The e^+e^− → K^+K^− cross section and charged-kaon electromagnetic form factor are measured in the e^+e^− center-of-mass energy range (E) from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV using the initial-state radiation technique with an undetected photon. The study is performed using 469  fb^(−1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II2 e^+e^− collider at center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. The form factor is found to decrease with energy faster than 1/E^2 and approaches the asymptotic QCD prediction. Production of the K^+K^− final state through the J/ψ and ψ(2S) intermediate states is observed. The results for the kaon form factor are used together with data from other experiments to perform a mod…
