Reactions Occurring during the Melt Mixing of Nylon 6 and Oxazoline−Cyclophosphazene Units

Specific reactions of amino and carboxyl end groups of Nylon 6 with the reactive oxazoline groups belonging to a cyclophosphazene compound (referred as CP20XA) were carried out at 240 °C for different times, under inert atmosphere. Ny6 polymers terminated with one specific reactive chain end (-COOH or NH2) were reacted with different amounts of CP20XA to study the kinetic order of the reactions. All Ny6-CP20XA reacted products soluble in trifluoroethanol (TFE) were well characterized by MALDI-TOF MS, FT-IR and ( 1H and 13C) NMR techniques. N-Trifluoroacetyl-Nylon 66 (2) obtained by the reaction of Nylon 66 (1) with trifluoroacetic anhydride is very suitable as a polymeric reagent for the trifluoroacetylation of amines and alcohols. The advantages of 2 compared with low molecular trifluoroacetylating reagents are discussed. The selectivity against different substituted anilines and against structurally isomeric secondary amines was studied intensively by kinetic measurements.

Human Topoisomerase I interaction with DNA on flexible nylon substrate for malaria diagnosis

The study of interaction between human Topoisomerase I (hTopo I) and the appropriate sequences of DNA is shown, with the aim to realize a biosensor for malaria diagnosis. Topoisomerases alter the topological state of DNA by catalysing the breaking and rejoining of DNA strands1. The ligase activity is fundamental for our biosensing strategy, revealing the pathology. hTopo I was chosen as a model system for the Plasmodium analogous. The biosensor is a new flexible and easy to degrade biochip printed on nylon by dip-pen lithography (DPL).
