Isolierter Verschluss einer zilioretinalen Arteriole - Klinik und Verlauf in 31 Fällen
2012
Mediane Nachbeobachtungszeit 51 Monate. Ergebnisse: In die Studie eingeschlossen wurden 31 Augen von 31 Patienten (Altersmedian 49 Jahre, Range 25 − 71 Jahre). Signifikante Karotidsklerose in 17/31…
<title>Optical non-invasive monitoring of skin blood pulsations</title>
2005
Time resolved detection and analysis of the skin backscattered optical signals (remission photoplethysmography or PPG) provide rich information on skin blood volume pulsations and can serve for reliable cardiovascular assessment. The single- and multi-channel PPG concepts are discussed in this work. Simultaneous data flow from several body locations allows one to study the heartbeat pulse wave propagation in real time and evaluate the vascular resistance. Portable single-, dual- and four-channel PPG monitoring devices with special software have been designed for real-time data acquisition and processing. The clinical studies confirmed their potential in the monitoring of heart arrhythmias, …

Root resorption and orthodontic treatment. Review of the literature.
2007
The aim of this paper was to provide a systematic review of the literature on the root resorption caused by orthodontic treatment. Original papers on this subject, published in English from January 2000 until December 2005, were located in the MEDLINE/PubMed database. Other sources were taken from the references of the selected papers. Root resorption is the most common sequela of the orthodontic treatment. It is an inflammatory process that leads to an ischemic necrosis localized in the periodontal ligament when the orthodontic force is applied. The onset and progression of root resorption are associated with risk factors related to the orthodontic treatment such as the duration of treatme…
Treatment of macular oedema (excluding age-related macular degeneration (AMD))
2021
Macular oedema corresponds to an increase in macular thickness most often associated with a rupture of the hematoretinal barriers. Diagnosis is based on the notion of reduced vision, but above all on multimodal imaging in which optical coherence tomography (OCT) plays an essential role both for the initial diagnosis and for follow-up. The mechanisms involved in the occurrence of macular oedema are primarily vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and cytokines regardless of the aetiology of the oedema. Treatment often involves a combination of local treatment - primarily intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF or corticosteroids - and, in certain situations, such as diabetes or uveitis, gene…
Retinal Fundus Multi-Disease Image Dataset (RFMiD): A Dataset for Multi-Disease Detection Research
2021
The world faces difficulties in terms of eye care, including treatment, quality of prevention, vision rehabilitation services, and scarcity of trained eye care experts. Early detection and diagnosis of ocular pathologies would enable forestall of visual impairment. One challenge that limits the adoption of computer-aided diagnosis tool by ophthalmologists is the number of sight-threatening rare pathologies, such as central retinal artery occlusion or anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and others are usually ignored. In the past two decades, many publicly available datasets of color fundus images have been collected with a primary focus on diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular…
Intravitreal Aflibercept Injection for Macular Edema Resulting from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion
2014
PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal aflibercept injections for treatment of macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). DESIGN: A randomized, multicenter, double-masked phase 3 study. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 177 treatment-naive patients with macular edema secondary to CRVO were randomized in a 3:2 ratio. METHODS: Patients received either 2-mg intravitreal aflibercept or sham injections every 4 weeks for 20 weeks. From week 24 to 48, the aflibercept group received aflibercept as needed (pro re nata [PRN]), and the sham group continued receiving sham injections. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary efficacy end point was the proportion of patients…
The Spectrum of Ocular Manifestations in Patients with Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia.
2021
Purpose: To investigate the ocular manifestations in 91 Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia (WM) patients. Methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional, observational analysis. Results: Ocular impairments, detected in 19 patients, included flame-shaped hemorrhages, venous sausaging, papilledema, macular detachments, or central retinal vein occlusion in 16 patients; paraproteinemic keratopathy in 2; and a CANOMAD syndrome in 1. Best-corrected visual acuity was ≥0.5 logMAR units in 11 of 38 eyes. Intraocular pressure was increased in seven eyes. Genetic analysis in seven patients showed a mutation in the MYD88 gene in six patients and a nonsense mutation in the CXCR4 gene in five patients. Plasmapheresi…
