In the present study, induction of these early physiological events was further investigated with inhibitors of protein phosphatase (PP), okadaïc acid, and calyculin A. The effects of oil spills on marine biological systems are of great concern, especially in regions with high biological production of harvested resources such as in the Northeastern Atlantic. The scientific studies of the impact of oil spills on fish stocks tend to ignore that spatial patterns of natural mortality may influence the magnitude of the impact over time. Here, we first illustrate how spatial variation in natural mortality may affect the population impact by considering a thought experiment. Intensive forest management and landscape degradation are threats to amphibian populations. We modelled and compared the extinction and colonization dynamics of the great crested newt in four different spatial contexts that describe landscape change from past to present and future forest landscapes in eastern Finland. In future landscape scenarios, we explored the effects of two forest use intensities with different logging rotation times. The introduction of fish into breeding ponds has been the main cause of local extinctions of the great crested newt. Although epigenetic factors may influence the expression of defense genes in plants, their role in antiviral responses and the impact of viral adaptation and evolution in shaping these interactions are still poorly explored. We used two isolates of turnip mosaic potyvirus with varying degrees of adaptation to Arabidopsis thaliana to address these issues. One of the isolates was experimentally evolved in the plant and presented increased load and virulence relative to the ancestral isolate. We have developed a protocol in which proteins and mRNA can be analyzed from single root samples. This experimental design was validated in arbuscular mycorrhiza by comparing the proteins profiles obtained with those from a classical protein extraction process. It is a step forward to make simultaneous proteome and transcriptiome profiling possible.

To identify fungal proteins involved in the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis, root-inducing transferred-DNA transformed roots of carrot (Daucus carota L.) were in vitro inoculated with Glomus intraradices. Proteins extracted from the extra-radical fungus were analysed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. A fungal reference map displaying 438 spots was set up. Four proteins, among the 14 selected for tandem mass spectrometry analysis, were identified including a NmrA-like protein, an oxido-reductase, a heat-shock protein and an ATP synthase beta mitochondrial precursor.
