Improved ion guide for heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions

1998

The ion guide for heavy-ion-induced reactions developed originally for the SARA facility in Grenoble has been implemented at the Jyvaskyla IGISOL facility. For the Cd-116(Ar-40, 6n)Dy-150 reaction an efficiency of 0.5% relative to the number of reaction products entering the stopping chamber was obtained. This is 3.5 times higher than previously obtained at SARA and corresponds to a yield of about 100 ions/(p mu C mb). Mass-separated yields for the Ar-36 + Mo-92 and Ar-36 + Mo-94 reactions were measured. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Steepest entropy ascent for two-state systems with slowly varying Hamiltonians.

2018

The steepest entropy ascent approach is considered and applied to two-state systems. When the Hamiltonian of the system is time-dependent, the principle of maximum entropy production can still be exploited; arguments to support this fact are given. In the limit of slowly varying Hamiltonians, which allows for the adiabatic approximation for the unitary part of the dynamics, the system exhibits significant robustness to the thermalization process. Specific examples such as a spin in a rotating field and a generic two-state system undergoing an avoided crossing are considered.

The Nonlinear σ Model

1989

The nonlinear (principal) σ model has been for a long time a theoretical laboratory to test different approaches for quantizing classical field theories. Here we shall discuss as an application of the current algebra representation theory a construction of the quantized σ model.

The Gaia-ESO Survey: Catalogue of Hα emission stars

2015

We discuss the properties of Hα emission stars across the sample of 22035 spectra from the Gaia-ESO Survey internal data release, observed with the GIRAFFE instrument and largely belonging to stars in young open clusters. Automated fits using two independent Gaussian profiles and a third component that accounts for the nebular emission allow us to discern distinct morphological types of Hα line profiles with the introduction of a simplified classification scheme. All in all, we find 3765 stars with intrinsic emission and sort their spectra into eight distinct morphological categories: single-component emission, emission blend, sharp emission peaks, double emission, P-Cygni, inverted P-Cygni…

Magnetoelectric effects in superconductors due to spin-orbit scattering : Nonlinear σ-model description

2021

We suggest a generalization of the nonlinear σ model for diffusive superconducting systems to account for magnetoelectric effects due to spin-orbit scattering. In the leading orders of spin-orbit strength and gradient expansion, it includes two additional terms responsible for the spin-Hall effect and the spin-current swapping. First, assuming a delta-correlated disorder, we derive the terms from the Keldysh path integral representation of the generating functional. Then we argue phenomenologically that they exhaust all invariants allowed in the effective action to the leading order in the spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Finally, the results are confirmed by a direct derivation of the saddle-poi…

A modified least squares FE-method for ideal fluid flow problems

1982

A modified least squares FE-method suitable e.g. for calculating the ideal fluid flow is presented. It turns out to be essentially more efficient than the conventional least squares method. peerReviewed

Data quality monitors of vertex detectors at the start of the Belle II experiment

2019

The Belle II experiment features a substantial upgrade of the Belle detector and will operate at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric e+e− collider at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan. The accelerator completed its first phase of commissioning in 2016, and the Belle II detector saw its first electron-positron collisions in April 2018. Belle II features a newly designed silicon vertex detector based on double-sided strip layers and DEPFET pixel layers. A subset of the vertex detector was operated in 2018 to determine background conditions (Phase 2 operation). The collaboration completed full detector installation in January 2019, and the experiment started full data taking. This paper will report on the fin…

The design and implementation of Neuma, a collaborative Digital Scores Library - Requirements, architecture, and models

2012

This paper presents the design and implementation of the Neuma platform, a digital library devoted to the preservation and dissemination of symbolic music content (scores). Neuma is open to musicologists, musicians, and music publishers. It consists of a repository dedicated to the storage of large collections of digital scores, where users/applications can upload their documents. It also proposes services to publish, annotate, query, transform, and analyze scores. The long-term goal of the project is to enable an open and collaborative space where musician communities will be able to share music in symbolic notation. The project is organized around the French IRPMF institute (BnF–CNRS) whi…
