History teaching in Finnish general upper secondary schools: Objectives and practices

In Finland, the trend towards a new kind of history teaching emphasizing the understanding of historical knowledge and historical thinking skills began in the mid-1990s, when history teaching objectives were defined much more broadly in the curriculum than previously. In this article, we examine how, in over twenty years since the changes in curriculum objectives were made, general upper secondary school teachers have come to value the curriculum objectives of history teaching and how these have impacted on their teaching. Näppäripedagogiikka on kaustislaisen Mauno Järvelän (s. 1949) kehittämä kansanmusiikinopetustyyli, jota toteutetaan Näppäreiksi kutsuttavissa ryhmissä. Assessment conception patterns of Finnish pre-service special needs teachers : the contribution of prior studies and teaching experience

The main aim of this study was to investigate how Finnish pre-service special needs teachers’ (N = 134) assessment conceptions, prior academic studies in special education and teaching experience together cluster into different patterns representing different student types. Their assessment conceptions formed three main factors: 1) assessment measures learning, 2) assessment supports teaching and learning, and 3) assessment as a harmful action. Does Replacing Face-to-face Lectures with Pre-recorded Video Lectures Affect Learning Outcomes?

Videoing lectures have been popular during the past decade. The literature on the effect of video lectures is controversial. Some studies indicate that video lectures have a positive effect on learning outcomes and student satisfaction, while some state that there is no effect at all. In this paper, we share the results of a university undergraduate course, where half of the lectures were replaced by pre-recorded lectures. The results indicate that using pre-recorded lectures had a statistically significant positive effect on grades. Also, the students’ satisfaction levels were higher. peerReviewed

This paper explores teacher elicitation practices following a perceived absence of a response to an initial inquiry. Specifically, we focus on whole class post-task discussions where a teacher pursues responses in post-first position following students’ non-uptake, and thus makes her orientation toward the expectation of a response publicly available. Liikuntaa opettavien opettajien ja kouluterveydenhoitajien yhteistyö oppilaiden toimintakyvyn edistämisessä ja Move!-järjestelmän hyödyntämisessä

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tutkia liikuntaa opettavien opettajien ja kouluterveydenhoitajien käsityksiä moniammatillisesta yhteistyöstä toimintakyvyn edistämiseen ja Move!-mittauksiin liittyen. Kummatkin toimijat ovat keskeisiä oppilaiden toimintakyvyn edistämisessä sekä perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelmaan sisältyvän Move!-järjestelmän hyödyntämisessä. Tutkimus toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena erikseen kouluterveydenhoitajille (N=192) ja liikuntaa opettaville opettajille (N=359). Määrällisten kysymysten analysoinnissa hyödynnettiin t-testiä sekä yksisuuntaista varianssianalyysiä ja laadullisen aineiston analyysissä teoriaohjaavaa sisällönanalyysiä.
