Proximity and distance in spatial economic theory

1997

Symmetry for positive critical points of Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequalities

2022

Abstract We consider positive critical points of Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequalities and prove a Liouville type result which allows us to give a complete classification of the solutions in a certain range of parameters, providing a symmetry result for positive solutions. The governing operator is a weighted p -Laplace operator, which we consider for a general p ∈ ( 1 , d ) . For p = 2 , the symmetry breaking region for extremals of Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequalities was completely characterized in Dolbeault et al. (2016). Our results extend this result to a general p and are optimal in some cases.

A New Extension of Darbo's Fixed Point Theorem Using Relatively Meir-Keeler Condensing Operators

2018

We consider relatively Meir–Keeler condensing operators to study the existence of best proximity points (pairs) by using the notion of measure of noncompactness, and extend a result of Aghajani et al. [‘Fixed point theorems for Meir–Keeler condensing operators via measure of noncompactness’, Acta Math. Sci. Ser. B35 (2015), 552–566]. As an application of our main result, we investigate the existence of an optimal solution for a system of integrodifferential equations.

A Quasilinear Parabolic Equation with Quadratic Growth of the Gradient modeling Incomplete Financial Markets

2004

We consider a quasilinear parabolic equation with quadratic gradient terms. It arises in the modeling of an optimal portfolio which maximizes the expected utility from terminal wealth in incomplete markets consisting of risky assets and non-tradable state variables. The existence of solutions is shown by extending the monotonicity method of Frehse. Furthermore, we prove the uniqueness of weak solutions under a smallness condition on the derivatives of the covariance matrices with respect to the solution. The in influence of the non-tradable state variables on the optimal value function is illustrated by a numerical example.

static optimal estimation of joint accelerations for inverse dynamics problem solution

2002

In inverse dynamics computations, the accuracy of the solution strongly depends on the accuracy of the input data. In particular, estimated joint moments are highly sensitive to uncertainties in acceleration data. The aim of the present work was to improve classical inverse dynamics computations by providing an accurate estimation of accelerations. Accelerations are usually calculated from noise-polluted position data using numerical double differentiation, which amplifies measurement noise. The objective of the present paper is to use all available imperfect position and force measurements to extract optimum acceleration estimations. A weighted least-squares optimisation approach is used t…

Optimal management of hormonal contraceptives after an episode of venous thromboembolism

2019

Optimal management of hormonal contraception in patients with venous thromboembolism (VE) requires an individualized approach considering its potential benefits and complications during and after anticoagulant treatment. Potential benefits include prevention of pregnancy and mitigation of menstrual bleeding that is often worsened after start of anticoagulation therapy. Current evidence suggests that patients may opt for a continuation of (all forms of) hormonal contraception during anticoagulant treatment, provided that they are adequately informed by the treating physicians. Combined oral contraceptives should be stopped before anticoagulant therapy may he discontinued, preferably after th…

Shortcut to Adiabaticity in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Model

2015

We study transitionless quantum driving in an infinite-range many-body system described by the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model. Despite the correlation length being always infinite the closing of the gap at the critical point makes the driving Hamiltonian of increasing complexity also in this case. To this aim we develop a hybrid strategy combining shortcut to adiabaticity and optimal control that allows us to achieve remarkably good performance in suppressing the defect production across the phase transition.

Ultrafast critical ground state preparation via bang-bang protocols

2020

The fast and faithful preparation of the ground state of quantum systems is a challenging task but crucial for several applications in the realm of quantum-based technologies. Decoherence poses a limit to the maximum time-window allowed to an experiment to faithfully achieve such desired states. This is of particular significance in critical systems, where the vanishing energy gap challenges an adiabatic ground state preparation. We show that a bang-bang protocol, consisting of a time evolution under two different values of an externally tunable parameter, allows for a high-fidelity ground state preparation in evolution times no longer than those required by the application of standard opti…

Measurement of trilinear gauge boson couplings WWV, (V Z,gamma) in e(+)e(-) collisions at 189 GeV

2001

Measurements of the trilinear gauge boson couplings WWgamma and WWZ are presented using the data taken by DELPHI in 1998 at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV and combined with DELPHI data at 183 GeV. Values are determined for Delta(g_1^Z) and Delta(kappa_gamma), the differences of the WWZ charge coupling and of the WWgamma dipole coupling from their Standard Model values, and for lambda_gamma, the WWgamma quadrupole coupling. A measurement of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moment of the W is extracted from the results for Delta(kappa_gamma) and lambda_gamma. The study uses data from the final states jjlv, jjjj, lX, jjX and gammaX, where j represents a quark jet, l an identifie…

A Novel Operating Strategy for Customer-Side Energy Storages in Presence of Dynamic Electricity Prices

2015

In the wholesale energy market, electricity prices are determined by the balance between supply and demand. Normally, customers are not exposed to these variations but pay a constant electricity price. In an attempt to reduce demand peaks, several utilities are moving from a conventional fixed-rate pricing scheme to a new market-based model, based on time-of-use or real-time pricing, able to closely reflect the wholesale energy price. Electricity customers can thus take profit from the installation of storage systems, shifting their energy consumption from on-peak to off-peak periods. This paper presents a novel charging strategy to manage customer storage systems in presence of hourly elec…
