A novel high-spin heterometallic Ni12K4cluster incorporating large Ni–azide circles and an in situ cyanomethylated di-2-pyridyl ketone
2005
Reaction of di-2-pyridyl ketone (dpk) with nickel acetate and azide in the presence of potassium tert-butylate as a catalytic base generates the title compound, which contains the largest [Ni(m1,1-N3)]6 circles in the discrete ferromagnetically-coupled MII–azide cluster family, and shows an unprecedented in situ cyanomethylation of ketone. Insights on the Mechanism of Insoluble-to-Soluble Prussian Blue Transformation
2009
The electrochemical transformation of the soluble form of Prussian blue (PB) material from the insoluble form was monitored using electrochemical, gravimetric, acoustic, and spectroscopic techniques simultaneously. The described combination of in situ techniques represents an innovative tool for measurement in electrochemistry, which provides complementary information on the electrochemical systems. The insoluble-to-soluble PB transformation process takes place during the successive voltammetric cycles between the mixed valence form (PB) and the fully reduced form [Everitt's salt (ES)]. One of the processes that takes place is the exit of free Fe(CN) 4- 6 ions occluded in the vacancies of t…
Partialsynthese neuer Ergolinderivate aus Clavinalkaloiden, 4. Mitt. N-1-, C-2- und N-6-monosubstituierte Agroclavine
1985
Partial Synthesis of New Ergoline Derivatives from Clavine Alkaloids, IV: Agroclavines Monosubstituted at N-1, C-2, and N-6 Agroclavine (1) is alkylated at the indole nitrogen with alkyl iodide in ammonia/potassium amide. It is convertible to 2-iodo-1 (3) with N-iodosuccinimide. Compound 6-nor-1 can be prepared by means of the cyanogen bromide method; alkylation at N-6 is described exemplarily for the ethyl derivative.
Synthesis and Characterization of New Keggin-Based Structure Tungstocobaltates: K9[Co3+W11O39] and its Vanadium Derivatives, K8[Co2+W11V4+O40], K7[Co…
1995
Abstract Good yield synthesis of the potassium salts of four new interrelated : olyoxometalates, [Co3+W11O39]9-(I), [Co2+W11V4+O4]8-(II), [Co2+W11V5+O40]7-(III), and [Co3+W11V5+O40]6-(IV), are reported. The title compounds have been characterized by IR and UV-Vis.-NIR spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry and magnetic measurements. IR spectra confirm that I has the lacunary structure of an undecatungstate anion, while II through IV have a substituted α-Keggin structure with the vanadium atom located at an octahedral site replacing one tungsten atom. Optical data confirm the oxidation states for both, the Co and V atoms, as formulated for I through IV.
Density functional theory based screening of ternary alkali-transition metal borohydrides: a computational material design project.
2009
We present a computational screening study of ternary metal borohydrides for reversible hydrogen storage based on density functional theory. We investigate the stability and decomposition of alloys containing 1 alkali metal atom, Li, Na, or K M1; and 1 alkali, alkaline earth or 3d / 4d transition metal atom M2 plus two to five BH4 groups, i.e., M1M2BH42‐5, using a number of model structures with trigonal, tetrahedral, octahedral, and free coordination of the metal borohydride complexes. Of the over 700 investigated structures, about 20 were predicted to form potentially stable alloys with promising decomposition energies. The M1Al/ Mn/ FeBH44, Li/ NaZnBH43, and Na/ KNi/ CoBH43 alloys are …
Controlling the cohesion of cement paste
2005
The main source of cohesion in cement paste is the nanoparticles of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), which are formed upon the dissolution of the original tricalcium silicate (C(3)S). The interaction between highly charged C-S-H particles in the presence of divalent calcium counterions is strongly attractive because of ion-ion correlations and a negligible entropic repulsion. Traditional double-layer theory based on the Poisson-Boltzmann equation becomes qualitatively incorrect in these systems. Monte Carlo (MC) simulations in the framework of the primitive model of electrolyte solution is then an alternative, where ion-ion correlations are properly included. In addition to divalent calciu…
Opposite effects of beta-adrenoceptor stimulation and 8-bromo-cyclic AMP on potassium efflux in mammalian heart muscle.
1980
beta-adrenoceptor stimulation by isoprenaline increases the potassium efflux in beating guinea-pig atria. This effect is not mimicked by 8-bromo-cyclic AMP, a cyclic AMP analogue which exerts a positive inotropic effect in this preparation.
Does cyclic GMP mediate the negative inotropic effect of acetylcholine in the heart?
1977
DURING vagal stimulation the pacemaker activity of the heart is diminished. The reduction in heart rate is due to a release of acetylcholine (ACh) from the parasympathetic nerve terminals that increases the permeability of the myocardial cell membrane for potassium ions (for review see ref. 1). This is accompanied by a shortening of the action potential duration in atrial muscle and a diminished calcium uptake2, which in turn results in a negative inotropic effect. Voltage clamp experiments in mammalian atrial muscle have shown that with higher concentrations of ACh not only is the potassium current augmented but also the slow inward current of calcium is reduced3. It is not clear how the c…
Control of freshwater fish louse Argulus coregoni: a step towards an integrated management strategy
2008
Harmful infections by ectoparasites of the genus Argulus occur repeatedly in freshwa- ter fish farming operations where the management has largely been ineffective. Preventative meth- ods and regular monitoring are rarely applied, so that chemical interventions become necessary. According to the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, a sustainable management or control program for a parasite should be based on knowledge of the ecology of the parasite along with adop- tion of several prevention and control methods, the application of which is dependent upon the pre- vailing infection level. The application of multiple management tactics is especially important because parasites can devel…
