X-linked primary ciliary dyskinesia due to mutations in the cytoplasmic axonemal dynein assembly factor PIH1D3

2017

International audience; By moving essential body fluids and molecules, motile cilia and flagella govern respiratory mucociliary clearance, laterality determination and the transport of gametes and cerebrospinal fluid. Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is an autosomal recessive disorder frequently caused by non-assembly of dynein arm motors into cilia and flagella axonemes. Before their import into cilia and flagella, multi-subunit axonemal dynein arms are thought to be stabilized and pre-assembled in the cytoplasm through a DNAAF2DNAAF4- HSP90 complex akin to the HSP90 co-chaperone R2TP complex. Here, we demonstrate that large genomic deletions as well as point mutations involving PIH1D3 are…

Tres artistas en el exilio: Max Aub, Félix Candela y Josep Renau

2020

Three artists in exile focuses on the historical diaspora provoked by the Spanish civil war (1936- 1939), and how it influenced three prominent figures of the cultural scene of that period: the writer and typographer Max Aub Mohrenwitz (Paris, 1903-Ciudad de Mexico, 1972); the architect Félix Candela Outeriño (Madrid, 1910-Raleigh, US, 1977); and the artist Josep Renau Berenguer (Valencia, 1907-Berlín, 1982). They are the three protagonists of this article, who were simultaneously living in Mexico during the exile and who made notable contributions in the fields of arts and humanities (Max Aub), architecture (Félix Candela), and graphic design and photomontage (Josep Renau). Ekstracelulārās vezikulās ietvertās mikrobiālās RNS atklāšana cilvēku asins un urīna paraugos

2020

Neuronal circuitry in the medial cerebral cortex of lizards

1997

The medial cortex of lizards is a simple three-layered brain region displaying many characteristics which parallel the hippocampal fascia dentata of mammals. Its principal neurons form a morphologically diverse population, partly as a result of the prominent continuous growth of this nervous centre. By using the classical Golgi impregnation method we describe here the morphology of the principal neurons (8 types) and the short-axon interneurons (18 types) populating the medial cortex of Podarcis hispanica as well as the connections between them.

Hsp 56 mRNA in Paracentrotus lividus embryos binds to a mitochondrial protein

2007

We previously demonstrated that Paracentrotus lividus Hsp56 mitochondrial chaperonin is constitutively expressed during development, that it has a specific territorial distribution, both in normal and heat-shocked embryos, and that its amount increases after heat shock [Roccheri MC, Patti M, Agnello M, Gianguzza F, Carra E, Rinaldi AM. Localization of mitochondrial Hsp56 chaperonin during sea urchin development. Biochem Biophys Res Commun 2001;287:1093-98] and cadmium treatment [Roccheri MC, Agnello M, Boneventura R, Matranga V. Cadmium induces the expression of specific stress proteins in sea urchin embryos. Biochem Biophys Res Commun 2004;321:80-7]. In this study, we looked at Hsp56 mRNA …

Controllable membrane remodeling by a modified fragment of the apoptotic protein Bax.

2021

Intrinsic apoptosis is orchestrated by a group of proteins that mediate the coordinated disruption of mitochondrial membranes. Bax is a multi-domain protein that, upon activation, disrupts the integrity of the mitochondrial outer membrane by forming pores. We strategically introduced glutamic acids into a short sequence of the Bax protein that constitutively creates membrane pores. The resulting BaxE5 peptide efficiently permeabilizes membranes at acidic pH, showing low permeabilization at neutral pH. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging showed that at acidic pH BaxE5 established several membrane remodeling modalities that progressively disturbed the integrity of the lipid bilayer. The AFM…

Butene Isomerization and Double-Bond Migration on the H-ZSM-5 Outer Surface: A Density Functional Theory Study

2011

Isomerization of trans-but-2-ene to cis-but-2-ene and double bond migration of trans-but-2-ene to but-1-ene have been investigated by means of density functional theory calculations on a suitable model of H-ZSM-5 surface. The study has been afforded on outer surface sites by considering the hydroxyl group of either a SiO2(OH)2 or a AlO2H(OH)2 moiety. On these outer surface sites, one alkoxide species occurs as a stable intermediate both along the isomerization and double bond migration pathways. The latter process could also occur via a single-step mechanism, which involves a six-center transition state. The energy barriers of the outer surface processes above do not take any advantage by t…
