Ventilation and Heart Rate Response During Exercise in Normals: Relevance for Rate Variable Pacing

1993

The observation of a close relationship of heart rate to oxygen uptake (HR-VO2) and heart rate to minute ventilation (HR-VE) has been shown to be of particular value in rate variable pacing. However, the impact of anaerobic threshold (AT) for the HR-VO2 and HR-VE slope has been studied less. Twenty-three male and 16 female subjects, mean age 52 +/- 7 years, were selected in whom complete heart catherization and extensive noninvasive studies excluded major cardiopulmonary disease. Semisupine bicycle exercise testing with analysis of respiratory gas exchange was performed using a ramping work rate protocol with work increments of 20 watts/min. At the respiratory AT, determined by the V slope …

Effectiveness of theophylline to increase cyclic AMP levels and force of contraction in electrically paced guinea-pig auricles. Comparison with isopr…

1977

The effects of theophylline (3×10−5 M–5×10−3 M), isoprenaline (10−6 M), excess calcium (7.2 mM) and ouabain (3×10−7 M) on force of contraction and c-AMP content were studied in electrically driven (frequency 3 Hz) left auricles isolated from guinea pigs pretreated with reserpine.

Magnitude of QRS duration reduction after biventricular pacing identifies responders to cardiac resynchronization therapy

2016

Background Several studies have investigated the association between native QRS duration (QRSd) or QRS narrowing and response to biventricular pacing. However, their results have been conflicting. The aim of our study was to determine the association between the relative change in QRS narrowing index (QI) and clinical outcome and prognosis in patients who undergo cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) implantation. Methods and results We included 311 patients in whom a CRT device was implanted in accordance with current guidelines for CRT. On implantation, the native QRS, the QRSd and the QI during CRT were measured. After 6 months, 220 (71%) patients showed a 10% reduction in LVESV. The m…

5-Year Outcome of Pulmonary Vein Isolation by Loss of Pace Capture on the Ablation Line Versus Electrical Circumferential Pulmonary Vein Isolation

2017

This study sought to compare long-term arrhythmia-free survival between electrical circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and PVI with the endpoint of unexcitability along the ablation line.PVI is the standard ablation strategy of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, although arrhythmia recurrence in long-term follow-up (FU) is high. The endpoint of unexcitability along the ablation line results in decreased arrhythmia recurrence compared to electrical PVI in 1-year FU.Seventy-four consecutive patients (age 62.5 ± 10.6 years; 70.3% male) with de novo paroxysmal atrial fibrillation who were initially included in our randomized trial and underwent catheter ablation at our institution were …

Cultivation Trials of Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) with Different Row Arrangements

2010

Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) is an annual plant from Umbelliferae. Although in cookery also sprouts and tender leaves are used, the drug from Dill is represented by the scented fruits (“seeds”), largely used for flavouring conserved foods and liqueurs, but also by herbal and cosmetic industry. In this work, we present the results of a trial performed in Sicily, putting under comparison four different row arrangements: CR30 (continuous rows 30 cm apart); CR60 (continuous rows 60 cm apart), CR90 (continuous rows 90 cm apart) and TR (twin rows with a distance of 30 cm inside and 60 cm between twin rows). The plant population on the row (12 plants m-1) was constant and according the row distanc…

Ordering effects in extreme high-resolution depth profiling with MeV ion beams

2012

Abstract The continuing development of depth profiling with MeV ion beam methods with depth resolutions in the nanometre, and even sub-nanometre, regime implies the resolved depth become comparable with the interatomic spacing. To investigate how short-range ordering influences depth profiles at these resolutions, we have employed a mathematical modelling approach. The radial, g ( r ) and depth distribution, g ( z ) functions were calculated for (1 0 0) surface, random and amorphous Si structures at 300 K produced using molecular dynamics simulations with the EDIP quasi-empirical potential. The results showed that short-range ordering lead to reduction of the scattering yield below the deep…

Process studies of organizational space

2020

The past decade has experienced an increase in the number of studies on organizational space or where work occurs. A number of these studies challenge traditional views of organizational space as a fixed, physical workspace because researchers fail to account for the spatial dynamics that they observe. New technologies, shifting employee-employer relations, and burgeoning expectations of the contemporary workforce blur boundaries between home and work, connect people and things that historically could not be linked, and extend workspaces to nearly everywhere, not just office buildings. Research on these transformations calls for incorporating movement into the physicality of work. Thus, org…

The perioperative management of small animals with previously implanted pacemakers undergoing anaesthesia.

2020

Abstract Objective There is little information in the veterinary literature about the perioperative management of small animal patients with previously implanted pacemakers undergoing elective or emergency non-cardiac procedures. The purpose of this article is to review the current literature with regard to human patients, with previously implanted pacemakers, undergoing general anaesthesia. Using this and the current information on pacemakers and anaesthesia in dogs and cats, we provide recommendations for small animal patients in this situation. Databases used Google Scholar, PubMed and CAB Abstracts using and interlinking and narrowing the search terms: “dog”, “cat”, “small animals”, “an…
