Strong expression of chemokine receptor CXCR4 by pancreatic cancer correlates with advanced disease

Certain chemokines have been proposed to distinctly contribute to tumor growth, dissemination and local immune escape. Expression of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 has been linked to tumor progression in diverse tumor entities. The aim of this study was to evaluate if the expression of CXCR4 influences progression of human pancreatic cancer. CXCR4 expression of pancreatic cancer was retrospectively assessed by immunohistochemistry in 103 patients with pancreatic cancer. Contribution of germline mutations in the BRCA and PALB2 genes to pancreatic cancer in Italy

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PC) is the third most common cancer associated with BRCA mutations. Most notice has been given to BRCA2, while the association between BRCA1 and PC is less widely reported. Recently, PALB2 has been implicated in both PC and breast cancer (BC) susceptibility. We selected 29 Italian PC patients from a case-control study of PC according to their personal and family history of both PC and breast/ovarian cancer (BC/OC) and tested them for presence of germline mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2 and PALB2. Management and prognosis of pancreatic cancer over a 30-year period.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to report on changes in the diagnostic assessment, patterns of care and survival over time for pancreatic cancers. METHODS: A total of 2986 cases of pancreatic cancer from the Digestive Cancer Registry of Burgundy (France) over a 30-year period (1976–2005) were considered. Non-conditional logistic regressions were carried out to identify the factors associated with resection for cure and with the use of chemotherapy. Factors influencing survival after resection of pancreatic cancer. A DNA analysis and a histomorphologic study

BACKGROUND The influence of DNA content on prognosis in stomach cancer has been investigated rarely, and the results are controversial. METHOD The prognostic relevance of the DNA content and histomorphologic parameters was evaluated in 41 patients after resection of pancreatic cancer. RESULTS In the univariate analysis, the DNA content, tumor size, lymph node status, tumor stage, nuclear grade, and type of resection had a statistically significant influence on the prognosis. No association was found between the DNA content and the histomorphologic features. Lymphatic Delivery and In Vitro Pancreatic Lipase Hydrolysis of Glycerol Esters of Conjugated Linoleic Acids in Rats

We examined the intestinal delivery of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) given in their triacylglycerol form in the mesenteric lymph of rats. Emulsions containing a mixture of the trilinolein/triester of CLA (9:1) and a tri-[1-(14)C]-linoleyl-sn-glycerol tracer were administered by force-feeding. Lymph was collected over two time periods (0-6 and 6-24 h), and the apparent recovery of CLA was determined relative to that of [1-(14)C]-18:2(n-6). An imbalance between oxidative processes and antioxidant systems has been widely demonstrated in chronic kidney diseases (CKD). In this study we enrolled 26 healthy subjects, 27 patients with CKD on conservative treatment (CT-CKD) with various degrees of renal failure, and 31 CKD subjects in haemodialysis treatment (HD-CKD), evaluated before and after a standard haemodialysis session. Pancreatic digestive hydrolase activities in growing rats fed alternately on raw and heated soya-bean flour.

The time-course effects of two diets containing raw (RSF) or heated (HSF) soya-bean flour on the digestive enzyme levels in the pancreas and in pancreatic juice were investigated in growing rats fed, alternately, on RSF or HSF diets for two 4-week periods. These values were compared with those obtained in a control group fed on a casein diet. RSF and HSF diets lowered N balance (84.8 (SE 0.9), 82.6 (SE 0.8) and 79.9 (SE 0.8) % with control, HSF and RSF diets respectively, at the third week).
