CT Angiography at 24 Months Demonstrates Durability of EVAR With the Use of Chimney Grafts for Pararenal Aortic Pathologies
2013
PURPOSE: To present the 24-month radiological follow-up data for patients with pararenal aortic pathologies treated with chimney and periscope grafts during endovascular repair. METHODS: Between January 2008 and December 2011, 124 high-risk patients with complex pararenal aortic pathologies were treated using the chimney technique at 2 European vascular and cardiovascular centers with advanced experience of the described technique. In particular, 50 patients were treated at Site 1 and 74 at Site 2. Forty (32.2%) patients (32 men; mean age 79.2±4.9 years) completed computed tomographic angiography follow-up at 24 months postoperatively. RESULTS: The overall technical success was 100%, and th…
Marine data collection and transmission system for ECO-boat
2014
Masteroppgave i Informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Marine data collection is of great importance because the analytical results based onthe collected data can be utilized for many purposes during the design phase beforesale as well as the maintenance phase of the boat after sale. In this thesis, I havedesigned and implemented a marine data collection and transmission system foryachts. The system can collect data from an NMEA network, a wireless sensornetwork, a custom-made CAN-bus network, and other sensors such as a 9degree-of-freedom inertial measurement units. The collected data is stored both atthe boat and at a remote server. In this design, I us…
CLINICAL OUTCOMES OF SELF-EXPAMDABLE METALLIC STENTS IN PALLIATION OF MALIGNANT ANASTOMOTIC STRICTURES: A SINGLE CENTER EXPERIENCE
2015
Background: self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) are employed as the preferred non surgical palliative treatment for gastric outlet obstruction due to malignancies. Metallic stents are often employed to treat malignant anastomotic obstructions after surgicsl interventions as esophagojejunostomy, gastrojejunostomy and esophagogastrojejunostomy. Methods: this case series reports prospectively the clinical outcomes of SEMS in the palliative care of malignant anastomotic strictures caused by the recurrence gastric cancer follwing gastric surgery as oncological curative treatment, in a series of nine consecutive patients, treated between January 2009 and december 2012 in our center. Results: N…
Phosphorylation and activation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase by red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam) oil and its fractions
2020
Abstract: Ethnopharmacological relevance Red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam) oil (RFO) is utilized by inhabitants of the Papua Island to treat diseases such as infections, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, but the mechanism of action is unknown. Aim of the study We have recently shown that RFO stimulates nitric oxide (NO) production in endothelial cells. The present study was conducted to investigate the molecular mechanism of endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) activation by RFO. Materials and methods NO production by endothelial cells was determined with electron paramagnetic resonance. The vascular function of isolated mouse aorta was examined using a wire myograph system. Phosphorylation of…
Resource or waste? A perspective of plastics degradation in soil with a focus on end-of-life options.
2018
‘Capable-of-being-shaped’ synthetic compounds are prevailing today over horn, bone, leather, wood, stone, metal, glass, or ceramic in products that were previously left to natural materials. Plastic is, in fact, economical, simple, adaptable, and waterproof. Also, it is durable and resilient to natural degradation (although microbial species capable of degrading plastics do exist). In becoming a waste, plastic accumulation adversely affects ecosystems. The majority of plastic debris pollutes waters, accumulating in oceans. And, the behaviour and the quantity of plastic, which has become waste, are rather well documented in the water, in fact. This review collects existing information on pla…
Resolution, efficiency and stability of HPGe detector operating in a magnetic field at various gamma-ray energies
2008
Abstract The use of High Purity Germanium detectors (HPGe) has been planned in some future experiments of hadronic physics. The crystals will be located close to large spectrometers where the magnetic fringing field will not be negligible and their performances might change. Moreover high precision is required in these experiments. The contribution of magnetic field presence and long term measurements is unique. In this paper the results of systematic measurements of the resolution, stability and efficiency of a crystal operating inside a magnetic field of 0.8 T, using radioactive sources in the energy range from 0.08 to 1.33 MeV, are reported. The measurements have been repeated during sev…
Testing Soil Encasing Materials for Measuring Hydraulic Conductivity of a Sandy-Loam Soil by the Cube Methods
2008
The Cube Method (CM) and the Modified Cube Method (MCM) were developed for measuring vertical (K v ) and horizontal (K h ) saturated hydraulic conductivity of a single soil sample. By these methods, a cube of soil is carved out in situ and a suitable material is applied to enclose the cube in a tightly fitting casing before moving the sample to the laboratory. Problems may be associated with the use of gypsum, originally used to encase soil. The suitability of molten wax and expandable polyurethane foam to encase a soil cube was tested for a sandy-loam soil. Wax-treated samples yielded lower conductivity results than untreated samples by a maximum factor of 3.7. The observed discrepancies w…
Impact de l'épandage des boues sur le phosphore dissous et particulaire des écoulements de surface
2003
Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the effect of land application of sewage sludge on phosphorus (P) losses during intense rainfall. Three rainfall simulations (40 mm h−1 of 30 min duration) were conducted on a field amended with sewage sludge. The overland flow water (OFW) was monitored and sampled every minute. The suspended solid, the dissolved and total phosphorus (respectively SS, TP and DP) concentrations were analysed. The forms of particulate bound P (PP) were investigated. Several results stem from this experiment: (a) sludge application induced a large increase in the DP content of the OFW; the concentrations obtained (0.15–0.57 mg l−1) were shown to result from desorpti…
Dispersal potential of antibiotrophy along the manure-soil-sediment continuum of sulfamethazine-contaminated agrosystems
2021
An emerging function in the scientific literature, antibiotrophy is the bacterial capacity to metabolize antibiotics. Considered a bioremediation tool, it remains a health risk due to its association with antibiotic resistance. The first goal of this thesis was to study its dispersion within agrosystems contaminated with antibiotics during two coalescence events, i.e. manure spreading on the soil and its erosion towards the aquatic compartment. Experiments have shown the systematic invasion of the soil and sediment bacterial communities by the antibiotroph Microbacterium sp. C448 when sulfamethazine is present but not necessarily mineralized. The antibiotic would have a double function towa…
Fouille d’un quartier funéraire des Ier et IIe s. dans le suburbium de Soissons/Augusta Suessionum : aires de crémation et inhumations d’enfants
2012
In the beginning of 2008 a preventive excavation has been conducted on about 1200 m2 of a large antique cemetery situated upon the butte Saint-Jean at Soissons (Aisne). In this cemetery, almost unknown, located south-west of the Roman town Augusta Suessionum a consistent activity in the part being excavated took place between the Augustan era and mid 2nd c. The total number of inhumations uncovered is 186 (mainly of infants). Cremations were executed from the very beginning altogether with inhumations, in more or less close proximity to them according to periods, then became predominant to the detriment of burials which were just previously arranged. Different structures clearly connected t…
