This work deals with valency, a key syntactic notion whose chemistry-inspired label was established by Lucien Tesnière (1959), one of the most well-known contributors to the Prague Linguistic Circle. We will concentrate on two questions: (a) to what extent does valency play a role in Second Language Learning (SLL)?; and (b) what role should the use of valency play in language teaching practices? This paper will provide answers to these questions and propose reasons for motivating the use of valency in SLL.

This research investigates the long¿run after¿performance of firms conducting seasoned equity offering in the Spanish market during the period 1993¿1999. Due to statistical and conceptual problems related to the estimation and contrast of long¿horizon returns, we analyse the robustness of results to different methodologies. We obtain evidence that issuers experience negative abnormal returns economically and statistically significant during the year after the event. Työssä tarkastellaan tapaustutkimuksen valossa Suomen ja Japanin matematiikan opetuksen eroja sekä vertaillaan molempien maiden matematiikan opetuksen parhaita puolia. Suomen osalta tutkimusaineisto muodostui yläasteen matematiikan tuntien videoista ja niiden pohjalta tehdyistä didaktisten vaiheiden ja luokkahuone vuorovaikutuksen muotojen analyyseista. Vastaavasti tutkimusaineistoa saatiin Japanista, missä yläasteen opettajat olivat videoineet tunteja ja käyttäneet samanlaista luokittelua kuin Suomessa.
