Carmen de Burgos died in 1932, leaving behind a considerable amount of written material: thousands of articles published in different newspapers, essays, novels and hundreds of “novelas cortas”. The works and the memory of this women’s rights activist were doomed to oblivion during Franco’s dictatorship. This thesis aims to rediscover and analyse these works from its various perspectives. We have been looking for the constant trends but also the evolutions. Carmen de Burgos has indeed evolved in her conception of the woman’s role and of the rights she had to acquire. Abstract Introduction Physical activity levels are low in the general population and these levels decrease from childhood to adolescence, as well as from adolescence to adulthood. Active commuting (AC) is an opportunity to increase the physical activity levels. The distance between home and destinations is a main correlate of AC; however, the distance that university students walk or cycle to university is unknown. This article studies the myth of Icarus as it is translated in the first part of Alfonso X's General estoria. Its analysis highlights aspects that are usually found in the mythographical episodes of the Alfonsine estoria, particularly linked with its possible sources and its internal characteristics. The latter ones are defined by the anonymity of the quote and an evident moral intention. The aim of this review is to provide newest results in the chemistry, pharmacology, and clinical studies of saponins-containing TCM drugs, some of them being listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. It appears that literature on triterpene saponins is more abundant than that of steroid saponins, and ginseng occupies a prominent position in the list. However, other TCM drugs are well documented in recent years belonging to the genera Astragalus, Gynostemma, Bupleurum, Clematis, Dipsacus, Platycodon, Gypsophila, Anemarrhena, Lonicera, Paris, Dioscerea, Tribulus, and Ophiopogon. Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is an autosomal dominant condition that predisposes affected individuals to a variety of malignant and benign neoplasms. The pathogenetic turning point of this illness is the accumulation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α, a transcription factor of several genes involved in oncogenesis, angiogenesis, tissue regeneration, metabolic regulation, hematopoiesis, and inflammatory responses. From an oncological perspective, increased awareness of the molecular pathways underlying this disease is bringing us closer to the development of specific and targeted therapies.
