The (im)possible success of disadvantaged students. Reflections on education, migration and social change
2019
The paper focuses on the ?unexpected pathways? of successful students with an immigrant background: these biographical routes, that seems socially impossible, raise theoretical issues around the individual-society, actor-structure relationship. Disadvantaged students who succeed represent a sociological challenge in the attempt to understand atypical situations and to identify the institutional processes and the structural opportunities that facilitate them, reducing ethnic inequalities in education. This framework is the starting point of the Su.Per. project (Success in educational pathways of students with immigrant background), based on the collection of written autobiographies of 65 imm…
Cuerpos de energía: Formas alternativas de ser-en-el-mundo
2020
Based on an ethnographic approach, this paper explores how members of a new age spiritual movement known as ?Llave Mariana? (LLM) build and experience their bodies. At the same time, it develops a thick description of their ritual practices and later it analyzes, delving fundamentally into the phenomenological perspective, how these members shape and transform their forms of self-perception, experience, and representation of others and the environment. Finally, it considers the implications these spiritual practices have in the search and consolidation of alternative ways of being-in-the-world

Comparing Innovation and Social Media Strategies in Scandinavian and US Newspapers
2018
The article focuses on innovation and social media strategies in newspaper companies in the US and three Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Norway and Denmark). Many previous studies have focused on the state of journalism and media industry in single countries, although media have distinct features in different countries. Through the comparative setting, it is possible to examine the differences in media innovation strategies and study what factors affect innovation in media production, business models, sources of funding, and social media strategies. The qualitative part of the paper consists of semi-structured in-depth interviews (N = 65) with media managers and experts, which were carried …
On the mechanism of imine elimination from Fischer tungsten carbene complexes
2016
(Aminoferrocenyl)(ferrocenyl)carbene(pentacarbonyl)tungsten(0) (CO)5W=C(NHFc)Fc (W(CO)5(E-2)) is synthesized by nucleophilic substitution of the ethoxy group of (CO)5W=C(OEt)Fc (M(CO)5(1Et)) by ferrocenyl amide Fc-NH– (Fc = ferrocenyl). W(CO)5(E-2) thermally and photochemically eliminates bulky E-1,2-diferrocenylimine (E-3) via a formal 1,2-H shift from the N to the carbene C atom. Kinetic and mechanistic studies to the formation of imine E-3 are performed by NMR, IR and UV–vis spectroscopy and liquid injection field desorption ionization (LIFDI) mass spectrometry as well as by trapping experiments for low-coordinate tungsten complexes with triphenylphosphane. W(CO)5(E-2) decays thermally i…
Patterning of supported gold monolayers via chemical lift-off lithography
2017
The supported monolayer of Au that accompanies alkanethiolate molecules removed by polymer stamps during chemical lift-off lithography is a scarcely studied hybrid material. We show that these Au–alkanethiolate layers on poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) are transparent, functional, hybrid interfaces that can be patterned over nanometer, micrometer, and millimeter length scales. Unlike other ultrathin Au films and nanoparticles, lifted-off Au–alkanethiolate thin films lack a measurable optical signature. We therefore devised fabrication, characterization, and simulation strategies by which to interrogate the nanoscale structure, chemical functionality, stoichiometry, and spectral signature of t…
Typographie und ihr Einfluss auf den Leseprozess: Mikrotypographische Fehler in den Oberschlesischen Nachrichten
2012
Pierwsza edycja „Wiadomości Górnośląskich” ukazała się 20 marca 1990 r. W formie polsko-niemieckiego dodatku do „Trybuny Opolskiej”.

Patruunat liikunnan asialla : liikunta osana teollisuuden sosiaalitoimintaa Suomessa ja Jämsänkoskella 1920-1970-luvuilla
2014
Tutkielmassa kuvaillaan suomalaisten teollisuustyönantajien järjestämää liikuntatoimintaa 1920–1970-luvuilla valtakunnallisena ja paikallisena ilmiönä. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa tarkastellaan, millaisia tavoitteita, toteutusmuotoja ja merkityksiä teollisuusyritysten liikuntatoiminta on saanut yhteiskunnassa tutkimusajanjaksona. Yhtyneet Paperitehtaat Oy:n (Yhtyneet) Jämsänkosken tehdasyhdyskuntaan syventyvällä tapaustutkimuksella kuvaillaan teollisuusyrityksen liikuntatoiminnan erityispiirteitä ja merkitystä paikallisen liikuntakulttuurin muotoutumisessa. Teollisuustyönantajien järjestämää liikuntatoimintaa on pidetty teollisuuden terveydellisen sosiaalitoiminnan osa-alueena. Teollisuuden so…
