The anatomical models of Dr Auzoux, an industrial success in the service of veterinary medicine

2013

Dr. Louis Auzoux (1797-1880) is known all over the world for the anatomical models made of papier maché he produced and exported over the world. If the models related to human aesthetics are more reknown, they are far from being the only ones that the famous industrialist has designed and marketed; animals, plants and especially flowers, are another facet of his art. Models dedicated to horse had a special significance for the company. The horses made of paper, the series of bones defects and jaw he created were massively bought by the administration of the war to provide the regiments the pedagogical materials necessary to train recruits. Through these fascinating objects, this is a progra…

Malignant epithelial/exocrine tumors of the pancreas

2020

Summary Pancreatic malignant exocrine tumors represent the most important cause of cancer-related death for pancreatic neoplasms. The most common tumor type in this category is represented by pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), an ill defined, stroma-rich, scirrhous neoplasm with glandular differentiation. Here we present the relevant characteristics of the most important PDAC variants, namely adenosquamous carcinoma, colloid carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells, signet ring carcinoma, medullary carcinoma and hepatoid carcinoma. The other categories of malignant exocrine tumors, characterized by fleshy, stroma-poor, circumsc…

Periodontal disease associated to systemic genetic disorders

2007

A number of systemic disorders increase patient susceptibility to periodontal disease, which moreover evolves more rapidly and more aggressively. The underlying factors are mainly related to alterations in immune, endocrine and connective tissue status. These alterations are associated with different pathologies and syndromes that generate periodontal disease either as a primary manifestation or by aggravating a pre-existing condition attributable to local factors. This is where the role of bacterial plaque is subject to debate. In the presence of qualitative or quantitative cellular immune alterations, periodontal disease may manifest early on a severe localized or generalized basis - in s…

Attāluma novērtējums papildinātajā realitātē

2021

Pētījuma piedalījās 40 dalībnieki, vecumā no 19 līdz 36 gadiem. Dalībnieki veica attāluma novērtēšanas uzdevumu papildinātajā realitātē pie saskaņotiem un nesaskaņotiem dziļuma nosacījumiem dažādos attēlu demonstrēšanas attālumos – 45 cm, 65 cm un 115 cm. Rezultāti norādīja, ka palielinoties skatīšanās attālumam novērtēšanas precizitāte samazinājās un uzdevuma izpildīšanas laiks pieauga gan pie saskaņotiem, gan nesaskaņotiem dziļuma nosacījumiem. Visbiežāk attēls ti…

Farmaceitiskās aprūpes papildus pakalpojumi Īrijā un ar to ieviešanu Latvijā saistīto barjeru identificēšana Latvijas farmaceitu vidū

2016

Aptieku uzdevums ir sniegt pacientiem pamata farmaceitisko aprūpi. Mūsdienās arvien biežāk ir sastopami dažādi papildus pakalpojumi, ko aptiekas piedāvā saviem pacientiem, ar mērķi gan piesaistīt klientus, gan veicināt pacienta-farmaceita attiecību uzlabošanu, gan nodrošināt maksimāli kvalitatīvu pacientu vajadzību izpildīšanu. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir aprakstīt Īrijas aptiekās sniegtos farmaceitiskos papildus pakalpojumus un Īrijā strādājošo farmaceitu attieksmi pret tiem, un noskaidrot Latvijas farmaceitu uzskatus par papildus pakalpojumiem un identificēt kādus šķēršļus papildus pakalpojumu ieviešanai Latvijas aptiekā saskata Latvijas farmaceiti. Darba veikšanā tika izmantota empīriskā p…

Breeding Tubercles, Papillomatosis and Dominance Behaviour of Male Roach (Rutilus rutilus) During the Spawning Period

2004

We studied the relationship between the breeding tubercle ornamentation (i.e. skin roughness) and male pre-spawning dominance and courtship behaviour in roach (Rutilus rutilus) within an experimental laboratory system. Sexually mature fish were caught during their migration to their spawning pond and their behaviours were studied in an artificial spawning arena. Males behaved naturally both in terms of male–male interactions and attempts to achieve spawnings. Males having many, large breeding tubercles (i.e. rough skin) were significantly more often dominant in our dyadic trials than those with smooth skin. The dominant male in the trial exhibited a more active courtship behaviour than its …

2014

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are non-enveloped DNA tumor viruses that infect skin and mucosa. The most oncogenic subtype, HPV16, causes various types of cancer, including cervical, anal, and head and neck cancers. During the multistep process of infection, numerous host proteins are required for the delivery of virus genetic information into the nucleus of target cells. Over the last two decades, many host-cell proteins such as heparan sulfate proteoglycans, integrins, growth factor receptors, actin and the tetraspanin CD151 have been described to be involved in the process of infectious entry of HPV16. Tetraspanins have the ability to organize membrane microdomains and to directly influenc…
