Veselīga uztura „šķīvja principa” maltīšu ietekme uz ķermeņa miesas būvi raksturojošiem antropometriskiem parametriem

2021

A singular (p,q)-equation with convection and a locally defined perturbation

2021

Abstract We consider a parametric Dirichlet problem driven by the ( p , q ) -Laplacian and a reaction which is gradient dependent (convection) and the competing effects of two more terms, one a parametric singular term and a locally defined perturbation. We show that for all small values of the parameter the problem has a positive smooth solution.

Parametric Models for Predicting the Performance of Wind Turbines

2020

Abstract Performances of eight parametric power curve models for wind turbines, which can be used for the planning and management of wind energy projects, are compared in this study. Initially, the manufacturer’s power curves of four wind turbines are compared with their field performances. Then, the parametric models are developed for these turbines which are tested with their site performances. Out of the models, WERA showed the best performance in case of all the turbines. Finally, a method for using WERA in extrapolating the performance of turbines with limited test data is demonstrated with the case of a 1 kW turbine.

Joint Gaussian processes for inverse modeling

2017

Solving inverse problems is central in geosciences and remote sensing. Very often a mechanistic physical model of the system exists that solves the forward problem. Inverting the implied radiative transfer model (RTM) equations numerically implies, however, challenging and computationally demanding problems. Statistical models tackle the inverse problem and predict the biophysical parameter of interest from radiance data, exploiting either in situ data or simulated data from an RTM. We introduce a novel nonlinear and nonparametric statistical inversion model which incorporates both real observations and RTM-simulated data. The proposed Joint Gaussian Process (JGP) provides a solid framework…

On the Dependence of Cirrus Parametrizations on the Cloud Origin

2019

<p>Particle size distributions (PSDs) for cirrus clouds are important for both climate models as well as many remote sensing retrieval methods. Therefore, PSD parametrizations are required. This study presents parametrizations of Arctic cirrus PSDs. The dataset used for this purpose originates from balloon-borne measurements carried out during winter above Kiruna (Sweden), i.e. north of the Arctic circle. The observations are sorted into two types of cirrus cloud origin, either in-situ or liquid. The cloud origin describes the formation pathway of the ice particles. At temperatures below −38 °C, ice particles form in-situ from solution or ice nuclea…

Spatially-induced nestedness in a neutral model of phage-bacteria networks

2017

[EN] Ecological networks, both displaying mutualistic or antagonistic interactions, seem to share common structural traits: the presence of nestedness and modularity. A variety of model approaches and hypothesis have been formulated concerning the significance and implications of these properties. In phage-bacteria bipartite infection networks, nestedness seems to be the rule in many different contexts. Modeling the coevolution of a diverse virus¿host ensemble is a difficult task, given the dimensionality and multi parametric nature of a standard continuous approximation. Here, we take a different approach, by using a neutral, toy model of host¿phage interactions on a spatial lattice. Each …

Ocean Acidification and the Loss of Phenolic Substances in Marine Plants

2012

Rising atmospheric CO(2) often triggers the production of plant phenolics, including many that serve as herbivore deterrents, digestion reducers, antimicrobials, or ultraviolet sunscreens. Such responses are predicted by popular models of plant defense, especially resource availability models which link carbon availability to phenolic biosynthesis. CO(2) availability is also increasing in the oceans, where anthropogenic emissions cause ocean acidification, decreasing seawater pH and shifting the carbonate system towards further CO(2) enrichment. Such conditions tend to increase seagrass productivity but may also increase rates of grazing on these marine plants. Here we show that high CO(2) …

Hierarchical log Gaussian Cox process for regeneration in uneven-aged forests

2021

We propose a hierarchical log Gaussian Cox process (LGCP) for point patterns, where a set of points x affects another set of points y but not vice versa. We use the model to investigate the effect of large trees to the locations of seedlings. In the model, every point in x has a parametric influence kernel or signal, which together form an influence field. Conditionally on the parameters, the influence field acts as a spatial covariate in the intensity of the model, and the intensity itself is a non-linear function of the parameters. Points outside the observation window may affect the influence field inside the window. We propose an edge correction to account for this missing data. The par…

Pedotransfer functions for estimating soil water retention curve of Sicilian soils

2019

Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) make use of routinely surveyed soil data to estimate soil properties but their application to soils different from those used for their development can yield inaccurate estimates. This investigation aimed at evaluating the water retention prediction accuracy of eight existing PTFs using a database of 217 Sicilian soils exploring 11 USDA textural classes. PTFs performance was assessed by root mean square differences (RMSD) and average differences (AD) between estimated and measured data. Extended Nonlinear Regression (ENR) technique was adopted to recalibrate or develop four new PTFs and Wind’s evaporation method was applied to validate the effectiveness of the …
