Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a complex disorder characterized by total or partial collapse of the upper airways (UA) during sleep, causing obstructive apneas or hypopneas, respectively. During respiratory events, respiratory efforts occur against the restricted or collapsed upper airway, hypoxia and hypercapnia develop, and sympathetic activation increases. The main symptoms of OSA are intermittent snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness. OSA is often associated with obesity, hypertension, and increased cardiovascular risk. Water-Soluble Cuprizone Derivative: Synthesis, Characterization, and in Vitro Studies

The cuprizone mouse model is one of the most accepted model systems for the investigation of oligodendrocyte degeneration, a process critically involved in the pathogenesis of diseases such as multiple sclerosis or schizophrenia. In order to substitute the in vivo experiments by in vitro approaches, the amine derivative BiMPi is introduced as a water-soluble alternative to cuprizone. Regarding superoxide dismutase activity, toxicity for oligodendrocytes, and disturbance of mitochondrial membrane potential, BiMPi shows similar in vitro effects as is observed in vivo for cuprizone. peerReviewed

RNA: m(5)C-methyltranferases (MTases) Nop2 from S. cerevisiae and human proliferation-associated nucleolar antigen p120 are both members of a protein family called Nop2/NSUN/NOL1. Protein p120 is well-known as a tumor marker which is over-expressed in various cancer tissues. Several issues need to be addressed to enable the expected potentials from this communication. End-to-end link performance of an asymmetric and asynchronous dual-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relay system built up using a causal multirate filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) technique operated under Rayleigh fading is presented. Three main performance measures namely bit error rate (BER), outage probability and channel capacity are used for this evaluation and approximate closed-form expressions for them are also made available.
