ABSTRACT Background Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is an atypical orofacial algesic syndrome. The aim of the authors' research was to investigate the morphological characteristics of peripheral blood circulation in patients with BMS in comparison with those of the peripheral blood circulation in healthy people. Methods The authors examined 28 subjects, of whom 14 (10 women and four men) had BMS and 14 (nine women and five men) were healthy control subjects. Journal Article; OBJECTIVE To describe incidence patterns and trends in children (0-14 years) and adolescents (15-19 age-range) with solid tumours, except those of central nervous system (CNS), in Spain. METHODS Cases were drawn from eleven Spanish population-based cancer registries. Incidence was estimated for the period 1983-2007 and trends were evaluated using Joinpoint regression analysis. RESULTS The studied tumour groups accounted for 36% of total childhood cancers and 47.6% of those diagnosed in adolescence with annual rates per million of 53.5 and 89.3 respectively. Purpose: This study investigated the 2-year safety and effectiveness of the PQ Bypass DETOUR system as a percutaneous femoropopliteal bypass. Materials and Methods: Seventy-eight patients with 82 long-segment femoropopliteal lesions were enrolled in this prospective, single-arm, multicenter study. In diabetics of type I and 2 we examined, in resting white blood cells (WBC), the filtration parameters (Initial Relative Flow Rate - lRFR, Clogging Rate - CR) employing the St. George Filtrometer, the polymorphonuclear cells (PMN) membrane fluidity, the PMN cytosolic Ca2+ content and the PMN membrane cholesterol/phospholipid ratio (C/PL). From the obtained data, it is evident that, while the lRFR of unfractionated WBC distinguishes normals from diabetics of type 1 and 2, the fIltration parameters of the PMN and mononuclear cells (MN) do not show any significant difference. En la exploracion funduscopica se aprecio una microangiopatia retiniana periferica. Discusion: El sindrome de Susac se caracteriza tipicamente por la triada encefalopatia, perdida auditiva neurosensorial, y oclusiones de ramas arteriales retinianas.
