Molar Mass Distribution and Size of Hydroxyethyl Starch Fractions Obtained by Continuous Polymer Fractionation

2002

By the use of continuous polymer fractionation (CPF) the initial polymer can be separated into fractions of different molar masses, which makes it possible to obtain hydroxyethyl starch (HES) fractions tailor-made for specific application. Two samples of HES (HES A and HES B) were fractionated by means of CPF. By size-exclusion chromatography-multi-angle laser light-scattering-differential refractive index (SEC/ MALLS/DRI) measurements it was shown that CPF is able to remove the low-molar-mass components and to adjust the samples to various desired molar masses with lower polydispersities than the original samples. In terms of the weight-average mean molar mass M w , the sol fractions have …

Styrene was bulk polymerised by ini…

Gelchromatographie, 12. Gelchromatographisches Verhalten von Polyvinylalkoholgelen

1975

Hydrolysis of copolymers from vinyl acetate and 1,4-bis(vinyloxy)butane results in crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) gels. Their applicability as hydrophilic stationary phase in gel permeation chromatography is investigated using dextranes, poly(ethylen…

Bulk polymerisation of styrene initiated by 14C-labelled 2,2′-azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) was studied at 52°C. The polymer…

The inhibition of glycerol permeation through aquaglyceroporin-3 induced by mercury(II)

2016

Mercurial compounds are known to inhibit water permeation through aquaporins (AQPs). Although in the last years some hypotheses were proposed, the exact mechanism of inhibition is still an open question and even less is known about the inhibition of the glycerol permeation through aquaglyceroporins. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of human aquaporin-3 (AQP3) have been performed up to 200 ns in the presence of Hg2+ ions. For the first time, we have observed the unbiased passage of a glycerol molecule from the extracellular to cytosolic side. Moreover, the presence of Hg2+ ions covalently bound to Cys40 leads to a collapse of the aromatic/arginine selectivity filter (ar/R SF), blocking th…

Mangiferin glycethosomes as a new potential adjuvant for the treatment of psoriasis

2020

[EN] Mangiferin, a natural compound isolated from Mangifera indica L, was incorporated in glycerosomes, ethosomes and alternatively in glycerol-ethanol phospholipid vesicles (glycethosomes). Actually, only glycethosomes were able to stably incorporate the mangiferin that was loaded at increasing concentrations (2, 4, 6, 8 mg/mL). The morphology, size distribution, rheological properties, surface charge and entrapment efficiency of prepared vesicles were deeply measured. All vesicles were mainly spherical, oligolamellar, small in size (similar to 145 nm) and negatively charged (similar to-40 mV), as confirmed by cryo-TEM observation and dynamic laser light scattering measurements. The higher…

Eco-scalable baicalin loaded vesicles developed by combining phospholipid with ethanol, glycerol, and propylene glycol to enhance skin permeation and…

2019

Abstract A new class of biocompatible and scalable phospholipid vesicles was developed, aiming at improving the efficacy of baicalin on the skin. Phosphatidylcholine and baicalin (a natural polyphenol) were hydrated in two steps with a mixture of ethanol, glycerol, and propylene glycol at different ratios, and a low amount of water (4%). Hence, water was almost completely replaced by the co-solvents, which were never used before as predominant dispersing medium of phospholipid vesicles. The vesicles appeared three-dimensionally structured, forming a network that conferred a high viscosity to the dispersions. The vesicles were unilamellar, small in size (∼100 nm), and stable during 12 months…

Hydrophobicity of bacteria Zymomonas mobilis under varied environmental conditions

2007

Abstract Changes in the cell surface hydrophobicity (CSH) of bacteria Zymomonas mobilis 113S were examined in response to varied environmental conditions (temperature and phase of growth, concentration or type of carbon source, the presence of amphiphilic compounds). The values of CSH were elevated with a decreased growth rate over the time of cultivation up to 20–22% at the stationary phase. CSH values increased proportionally with the growth of cultivation temperature and concentration of carbon source (glucose or sucrose) or amphiphilic compound (aliphatic alcohols, Tween80) in the medium. Replacement of sucrose by glucose and the presence of Tween20 in the growth medium resulted in redu…
