KEY POINTS: While a consensus has now been reached on the effect of motor imagery (MI) – the mental simulation of an action – on motor cortical areas, less is known about its impact on spinal structures. The current study, using H‐reflex conditioning paradigms, examined the effect of a 20 min MI practice on several spinal mechanisms of the plantar flexor muscles. We observed modulations of spinal presynaptic circuitry while imagining, which was even more pronounced following an acute session of MI practice. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an acute inflammatory process of the pancreatic gland. The aim of this work was to evaluate the role of thiol oxidation of key proteins that can be involved in the regulation of the inflammatory process during AP. AP was induced in C57BL/6 mice by 7 hourly subcutaneous injections of cerulein (50 ug/kg bw). Animals were sacrificed after 1, 3, 5 and 7 injections of cerulein. One hour after the first injection, hyperoxidation of peroxiredoxin 1–4 was detected coinciding with a H2O2 peak. In order to screening new Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains to alleviating liver injury induced by oxidized oil, we isolated and screened LAB from Chinese fermented foods. Lactobacillus plantarum AR113, Pediococcus pentosaceus AR243, and Lactobacillus plantarum AR501 showed higher scavenging activity of α, α-Diphenyl-β-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and hydrogen radical, stronger inhibition of lipid peroxidation, and better protective effect on yeast cells in vitro. Aim: To describe the genomic characteristics of seawater-borne hemolytic Shewanella algae and its resistance genes. Materials & methods: Whole genome sequence of S. algae SYT3 was determined using llumina MiSeq platform. Multiple-database-based analysis was performed to identify the genetic background of its hemolytic activity and the antibiotic resistance genes. Results: S. algae SYT3 possesses a homolog of the hly operon involved in the synthesis of hemolysin. We also identified candidate genes associated with resistance to β-lactam antibiotics (bla OXA-55) and fluoroquinolone (qnrA3). In particular, HSP60 and HSP10 seem to play an important role in carcinogenesis, supporting tumours in their proliferation, survival, and metastasis.
