Selective, Sensitive, and Rapid Analysis with Lateral-Flow Assays Based on Antibody-Gated Dye-Delivery Systems: The Example of Triacetone Triperoxide

[EN] Antibodygated MSNs that are loaded with a rhodamine dye and that can be used for the determination of the presence of peroxide-based explosive TATP with a lateral-flow fluorescence reader have been designed and prepared, thereby allowing for detection limits in the lower ppb range. The mechanism of the detection relies on a displacement of the antibody from the surface of the hybrid material because of highly affine antibody-TATP interactions, which release a much larger number of entrapped dye molecules from the pores than antibodies are displaced. Baeyer−Villiger Oxidation with Potassium Peroxomonosulfate Supported on Acidic Silica Gel

[reaction: see text] Potassium peroxomonosulfate deposited onto silica SiO2 x KHSO5 efficiently reacts with ketones in dichloromethane at room temperature to give the corresponding esters or lactones in quantitative yields. This method avoids hydrolysis of the reaction products. The Baeyer-Villiger reaction is catalyzed by potassium hydrogensulfate present in the supported reagent.

Spectrophotometric determination of fluoride in fluoride-bearing minerals after decomposition by fusion with sodium hydroxide

The decomposition of highly insoluble minerals (fluorspar and cryolite) by fusion with molten alkali-metal hydroxides is studied. The introduction of additives such as aluminium compounds or sodium peroxide to obtain total liberation of fluoride from calcium fluoride samples, is tested. The fusion is done in a silver crucible with a Bunsen burner. The cooled melt is easily soluble, giving solutions suitable for spectrophotometric fluoride determination by the Zr(IV)-fluoride-Erichrome Cyanine R method.

Calculations of F centers in KNbO 3 ferroelectric crystals

Semi-empirical method of the intermediate neglect of the differential overlap (INDO) combined with the supercell model is applied to the calculations of the F center optical properties in ferroelectric KNbO 3 perovskite crystals. It is shown that two electrons of the defect are weakly localized inside the O vacancy, unlike similar defects in ionic alkali halides, but are considerably spread over two nearest Nb atoms. For the orthorhombic phase stable at room temperatures three absorption bands are predicted to be at 2.72 eV, 3.04 eV and 3.11 eV, respectively. Copper complexes with sulfonamides: crystal structure and interaction with pUC18 plasmid and hydrogen peroxide

N-Quinolin-8-yl-benzenesulfonamide (Hqbsa) and N-quinolin-8-yl-naftalenesulfonamide (Hqnsa) have been synthetized and physicochemically characterized, and used as ligands to coordinate copper complexes with ML2 stoichiometry. The structure of the compounds [Cu(qbsa)2]·DMF and [Cu(qnsa)2] has been determined by X-ray diffraction and both of them crystallize in the orthorhombic system. IR and ESR spectra of the complexes are discussed. The cleavage of pUCI8 by the copper complexes do not behave as chemical nucleases in the range of concentrations assayed.

Abstract Activation of the nuclear receptor PPARb/d inhibits acute inflammatory responses in vitro with human primary cells and in vivo by targeting the endothelial cell-leukocyte interaction. The infiltration of PMNs into tissues is a prominent feature in inflammation. The mechanism underlying PMN recruitment depends on the release of chemotactic mediators and CAM expression on endothelial cells. The nuclear receptor PPARβ/δ is widely expressed in many tissues, including the vascular endothelium; however, its role in acute inflammation remains unclear. Watermelon (Citrillus lanants) plants were grown for two consecutive years in open-top chambers with three different ozone concentrations (O-3-free air, O-3 ambient, and air with additional O-3; CFA, NFA, and NFA+O-3) and three nitrogen fertilizer concentrations [0, 14.0, and 29.6 g N per pot; N0, N1, and N2). There was an interaction between ozone and N fertilizer for the major parameters studied. Effects of ozone on photosynthetic CO2 exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence and antioxidant systems in lettuce leaves

The effects of ozone exposure on lettuce leaves were investigated by means of gas exchange, modulated chlorophyll a fluorescence and antioxidants systems. High ozone concentration decreased the rate of photosynthesis at light saturation level and changes in stomatal conductance and transpiration rate. However, an increase in intercellular CO 2 concentration indicated a decrease in the carboxylation efficiency. These data agreed with a reduction of non-cyclic electron flow and lower capacity to reduce the quinone pool.
