2019

The purpose of this study is to evaluate and promote the prescriptive appropriateness through the close collaboration between the pharmacist and the medical team. The aspect of the dispensation of antiretroviral therapy was deepened by providing useful information to the patient on the possible undesired effects and interactions due to the polypharmacy, on the correct way of storing the drugs, and on the importance of the regularity of the polypharmacy intake…

Catching allergy by a simple questionnaire

2014

Background Identifying allergic rhinitis requires allergy testing, but the first-line referral for rhinitis are usually primary care physicians (PCP), who are not familiar with such tests. The availability of easy and simple tests to be used by PCP to suggest allergy should be very useful. Methods The Respiratory Allergy Prediction (RAP) test, based on 9 questions and previously validated by a panel of experts, was evaluated in this study. Results An overall number of 401 patients (48.6% males, age range 14–62 years) with respiratory symptoms was included. Of them, 89 (22.2%) showed negative results to SPT, while 312 (77.8%) had at least one positive result to SPT. Cohen’s kappa coefficient…

General Practitioners-CommunityPharmacists practice groups: Analysis of the potentialities and limits of this practice through its implementation in …

2023

Practice groups involving general practitioners and community pharmacists have been developed in several European countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland) since the 1980s. Each country has implemented this practice using a different model with similarities but also specificities. Each model has encountered different dynamics during its implementation thanks to a significant and even growing participation of professionals in the Netherlands and Switzerland and, to a lesser extent, in Belgium. According to the research that has studied the implementation of these models, the potential of this practice is important in terms of improving the quality of drug prescription and in its cost…

Role of the hospital pharmacist in an Italian antimicrobial stewardship programme

2020

The inappropriate use of antimicrobial agents is contributing to an increasing phenomenon of bacterial resistance. For this reason, there is a growing interest in ‘antimicrobial stewardship’, a series of coordinated and multidisciplinary interventions aimed to promote the safe and appropriate use of antimicrobials in which the pharmacist’s contribution is necessary for the optimal choice of drug, dose, duration of therapy and the implementation of cost containment strategies. AIM OF THE STUDY: We wanted to create a reference model and a specific training manual on antibiotic stewardship to introduce the role of the department pharmacist with specific infection disease skills in the Italian …

Evaluación de la calidad de dos modelos de atención farmacéutica en pacientes onco-hematológicos

2007

Objective: To compare the quality of two pharmaceutical care models (with and without pharmacist participation in the clinical team), in hospitalised onco-haematological patients. Method: A prospective cohort study in the oncology and haematology departments of a university hospital over a 26-month period. A centralised model (model C) was used over 16 months and a decentralised integration model (model D) was used during the remaining 10 months. The Iaser© methodology was used to identify candidates for improved drug treatment and for the follow up of patients with drug-related problems (DRP). The results obtained were compared using a series of pharmaceutical care quality indicators. Resu…
