OBJECTIVE Mental disorders in sexual offenders are relevant in terms of risk assessment and psychotherapeutic and pharmacological treatment. METHODS The present cross-sectional study was conducted between 2001 and 2017 and included 1511 sexual offenders who were assessed at the Federal Evaluation Center for Sexual and Violent Offenders in the Austrian Prison System. All sexual offenders were assessed with the Structured Clinical Interview for Axis I (SCID I) and Axis II disorders (SCID II). Fatal Anaphylactic Shock Ceftriaxone-Induced in a 4-Year-Old Child

One of the most used cephalosporin in clinical practice is ceftriaxone. Anaphylaxis due to the administration of ceftriaxone is considered a rare event. Here, we report a case of fatal anaphylactic shock after the administration of ceftriaxone in a child who had tolerated the drug in past exposures. The allergic pathogenesis is sustained by the clinical data (short time between the inoculation of the drug and the onset of the symptoms; past exposure to the same molecule and probable sensitization) and the postmortem examination findings (polivisceral congestion and intense eosinophilia found in the histological examination).

Summary. In haemophiliacs, the physical condition, muscular strength, aerobic resistance, anaerobic resistance and proprioception have all diminished. Muscle atrophy and instability, being more vulnerable to stressful motor demands, increase the risk of lesion and establish a vicious circle that is hard to break: pain, immobility, atrophy, articular instability and repeated bleeding episodes. The diagnosis of essential thrombocythemia and polycythemia vera is often made during a thrombotic event which can be serious. Philadelphia-negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasia patients have an increased thrombotic risk. This is assessed using various scoring systems but these are far from ideal and individual risk. The currend trend to personalised medicine requires finding the most useful thrombotic risk biomarker in these patients. Routine tests for coagulation do not take account of both pro- and anti-coagulant factors which is why these tests are not useful in patients with Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms. Peripheral Neuropathy in the Hypereosinophilic Syndrome: A Case Report

We observed a patient with the hypereosinophilic syndrome that showed as a prominent clinical feature peripheral nerve dysfunction. The neuropathy evolved over 4 months and affected sensory and motor functions. Nerve conduction studies and EMG were compatible with axonal neuropathy. Nerve and muscle biopsies revealed severe axonal degeneration with neurogenic atrophy of muscle. Morphometry of peroneal nerve showed marked axonal loss, more prominent in large myelinated fibers. There was no evidence of vasculitis process.
