AbstractThis paper deals with the relative empirical length of signs in sign languages and provides evidence for the view that they are actually longer units than has hitherto been recognized. The evidence is presented from two perspectives: those of sign articulation and sign recognition. Concerning sign articulation, it is suggested that signs are longer units than is currently assumed because most of the structural features of signs are in fact already present before the currently accepted beginnings of signs and they continue after signs' generally accepted endings. Tapaustutkimuksemme tarkoituksena on selvittaa muutaman foneettisen piirteen ja vieraan aksentin yhteytta suomen kielessa. Analysoimme ilmiota kuulijatestilla, akustisin mittauksin ja kirjoittajien tekemin kuulonvaraisin havainnoin. Puhujina ovat varsin edistyneet suomenpuhujat, jotka puhuvat suomea toisena tai vieraana kielenaan. Tuloksemme antavat uutta tietoa vieraan aksentin ja foneettisten piirteiden yhteyksista seka tarjoavat avauksia jatkotutkimukselle. Differences in acoustically determined sentence stress between native and L2 speakers of Finland Swedish

This study describes a pilot attempt to use acoustically determined sentence stress in distinguishing native and L2 speakers of Finland Swedish at different proficiency levels. The study is part of the DigiTala project that examines and develops automatic tools for spoken L2 assessment. Stressed syllables were detected in 235 L2 and 30 L1 speech samples using combinations of f0, intensity, and duration. Differences were found in the relative number of stressed syllables between native and L2 speakers using f0 and duration or all three features. Further research with more consistent speech data is needed to establish reliable automatic measures of sentence stress. nonPeerReviewed

L'articolo ha come obiettivo l'elaborazione di una proposta di trascrizione fonetica delle consonanti semipalatalizzate in ucraino per mezzo dei simboli dell'Alfabeto fonetico internazionale, da usare nei manuali destinati agli studenti stranieri. Vengono prese in considerazione diverse problematiche, tra cui: la limitatezza dei mezzi grafici dell'alfabeto fonetico per esprimere alcune particolarità della correlazione palatale; la resa ortografica delle semi-palatalizzate in ucraino e la sua corrispondenza alla loro pronuncia comune; la tendenza di alcune consonanti palatalizzate all'indurimento e i diversi modi di pronunciare le semi-palatalizzate.
