Influence of Substituent and Benzoannulation on Photophysical Properties of 1-Benzoylmethyleneisoquinoline Difluoroborates

A series of 1-benzoylmethyleneisoquinoline difluoroborates were synthesized, and their photophysical properties were determined. The effect of the substituent and benzoannulation on their properties was investigated to make a comparison with recently published results focused on related quinolines. The photophysical properties of isoquinoline derivatives differ from those of quinolines, and the most pronounced differences are found for the fluorescence quantum yields. Both experimental and theoretical approaches were used to explain the observed photophysical properties.

Concentration dependence of amplified spontaneous emission in two oligo-(p-phenylenevinylene) derivatives

Amplified spontaneous emission sASEd in optically pumped polystyrene sPSd films doped with two different oligo-sp-phenylenevinylened derivatives sOPVsd, with three s3-OPVd and five s5-OPVd monomer units is reported. It is observed that there is a maximum content of oligomer s25 wt. % for 3-OPV and 20 wt. % for 5-OPVd that can be introduced in the films, due to degradation sin 3-OPVd and ASE quenching sin 5-OPVd. Optimal concentrations swith minimum pump-intensity thresholds for the observation of ASEd of 15 wt. % and 9 wt. % are measured for the trimer and the pentamer, respectively. The photophysics of distorted nanographenes: Ultra-slow relaxation dynamics, memory effects, and delayed fluorescence

The controlled deformation and engineering of the sp2 carbon network in atomically-precise nanographenes, and their substantially larger size as compared to typical optical dyes, opens new opportunities for the modulation of optical and electronic properties, but the peculiar photophysics of these systems is still poorly understood. BODIPY-phosphane as a versatile tool for easy access to new metal-based theranostics

A new BODIPY-phosphane was synthesized and proved to be a versatile tool for imaging organometallic complexes. It also led to easy access to a new family of theranostics, featuring gold, ruthenium and osmium complexes. The compounds' cytotoxicity was tested on cancer cells, and their cell uptake was followed by fluorescence microscopy in vitro.

Supramolecular Construction of Cyanide-Bridged Re I Diimine Multichromophores

The reactions of labile [Re(diimine)(CO)3(H2O)]+ precursors (diimine = 2,2′-bipyridine, bpy; 1,10-phenanthroline, phen) with dicyanoargentate anion produce the dirhenium cyanide-bridged compounds [{Re(diimine)(CO)3}2CN)]+ (1 and 2). Substitution of the axial carbonyl ligands in 2 for triphenylphosphine gives the derivative [{Re(phen)(CO)2(PPh3)}2CN]+ (3), while the employment of a neutral metalloligand [Au(PPh3)(CN)] affords heterobimetallic complex [{Re(phen)(CO)3}NCAu(PPh3)]+ (4). Long lived photoinduced charges in donor-acceptor anthraquinone substituted thiophene copolymers

The photoinduced charge-transfer properties of a series of polyalkylthiophene copolymers, carrying anthraquinone substituents covalently linked to the conjugated backbone, have been studied in the solid state by photoinduced absorption (PA) and light-induced electron spin resonance (LESR) spectroscopy. The measurements indicate the formation of metastable charges arising from the photoinduced electron transfer from the polythiophene backbone to the anthraquinone moieties. Ultrafast decay of the excited singlet states of thioxanthone by internal conversion and intersystem crossing.

The experimental ultrafast photophysics of thioxanthone in several aprotic organic solvents at room temperature is presented, measured using femtosecond transient absorption together with high-level ab initio CASPT2 calculations of the singlet- and triplet-state manifolds in the gas phase, including computed state minima and conical intersections, transition energies, oscillator strengths, and spin-orbit coupling terms. Photoluminescence in Carborane–Stilbene Triads : A Structural, Spectroscopic, and Computational Study

A set of triads in which o- and m-carborane clusters are bonded to two stilbene units through Ccluster -CH2 bonds was synthesized, and their structures were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. A study on the influence of the o- and m- isomers on the absorption and photoluminescence properties of the stilbene units in solution revealed no charge-transfer contributions in the lowest excited state, as confirmed by (TD)DFT calculations. Two new heteroleptic iridium(III) complexes [Ir(ppy)(2)(pyr(2)bpy)][PF(6)] ([1a][PF(6)]) and [Ir(dfppy)(2)(pyr(2)bpy)][PF(6)] ([2a][PF(6)]), where Hppy = 2-phenylpyridine, Hdfppy = 2-(3,5-difluorophenyl)pyridine, and pyr(2)bpy = 5,5'-bis(pyren-1-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine, have been synthesized and fully characterized.
