Seismic evaluation of ordinary RC buildings retrofitted with externally bonded FRPs using a reliability-based approach

International audience; Despite the extensive literature on reinforced concrete (RC) members retrofitted with fiberreinforced polymer (FRP) composites, few studies have employed a reliability-based approach to evaluate the seismic performance of RC buildings in terms of their collapse capacity and ductility. The present paper reports on the results of our participation to the depression sub-challenge of the sixth Audio/Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC 2016), which was designed to compare feature modalities ( audio, visual, interview transcript-based) in gender-based and gender-independent modes using a variety of classification algorithms. This text is the support for the course of Modeling of Solids, of the Master of Mechanics of the University Paris-Saclay - Curriculum MMM: Mathematical Methods for Mechanics, held at Versailles. The course is the continuation of the course Continuum Mechanics - Solids, and as such it is an introduction, for graduate students, to some typical topics of the theory of solid bodies. The different arguments are dealt with in a simple, succinct way, the objective being to give to students the fundamentals of each argument. Only static problems are considered, being the dynamic of structures dealt with in other courses.

Acousto-optic cavity coupling in 2D phoxonic crystal with combined convex and concave holes

International audience; A two-dimensional cross-like phoxonic crystal (PxC) model is proposed, which exhibits simultaneously large complete photonic crystal (PtC) and phononic crystal (PnC) bandgaps. The most salient trait of the structure is the wide range of geometrical parameters compatible with large complete bandgaps. After geometrical optimization, photonic and phononic bandgaps with gap-to-midgap ratios of 11.5% and 90.7% are obtained, respectively. These values are close to the best topology-optimized reported values but are obtained with simple shapes compatible with nanoscale fabrication technology. Accurate expansion of cylindrical paraxial waves for its straightforward implementation in electromagnetic scattering

Abstract The evaluation of vector wave fields can be accurately performed by means of diffraction integrals, differential equations and also series expansions. In this paper, a Bessel series expansion which basis relies on the exact solution of the Helmholtz equation in cylindrical coordinates is theoretically developed for the straightforward yet accurate description of low-numerical-aperture focal waves. The validity of this approach is confirmed by explicit application to Gaussian beams and apertured focused fields in the paraxial regime. Finally we discuss how our procedure can be favorably implemented in scattering problems.

Experimental realization of a pillared metasurface for flexural wave focusing

International audience; A metasurface is an array of subwavelength units with modulated wave responses that show great potential for the control of refractive/reflective properties in compact functional devices. In this work, we propose an elastic metasurface consisting of a line of pillars with gradient heights, erected on a homogeneous plate. Extraordinary nonlinear transmission modulation in a doubly resonant acousto-optical structure

International audience; Acousto-optical modulators usually rely on coherent diffraction of light by a moving acoustic wave, leading to bulky devices with a long interaction length. We propose a subwavelength acousto-optical structure that instead relies on a double resonance to achieve strong modulation at near-infrared wavelengths. A periodic array of metal ridges on a piezoelectric substrate defines cavities that create a resonant dip in the optical transmission spectrum. Diffraction-free beams in thin films

The propagation and transmission of Bessel beams through nano-layered structures has been discussed recently. Within this framework we recognize the formation of unguided diffraction-free waves with the spot size approaching and occasionally surpassing the limit of a wavelength when a Bessel beam of any order n is launched onto a thin material slab with grazing incidence. On the basis of the plane-wave representation of cylindrical waves, a simple model is introduced providing an exact description of the transverse pattern of this type of diffraction-suppressed localized wave. It has been shown that the concept of a magic state (in universal quantum computing: uqc) and that of a minimal informationally complete positive operator valued measure: MIC-POVMs (in quantum measurements) are in good agreement when such a magic state is selected in the set of non-stabilizer eigenstates of permutation gates with the Pauli group acting on it [1]. Behavior of gap solitons in anharmonic lattices

International audience; Using the theory of bifurcation, we provide and find gap soliton dynamics in a nonlinear Klein-Gordon model with anharmonic, cubic, and quartic interactions immersed in a parametrized on-site substrate potential. The case of a deformable substrate potential allows theoretical adaptation of the model to various physical situations.
