Job strain in the public sector and hospital in-patient care use in old age : a 28-year prospective follow-up

Background: high job strain increases the risk of health decline, but little is known about the specific consequences and long-term effects of job strain on old age health. Objectives: purpose was to investigate whether physical and mental job strain in midlife was associated with hospital care use in old age. Consumption of vegetables at dinner in a cohort of Norwegian adolescents.

Abstract This longitudinal study examined the frequency of consumption of vegetables for dinner by Norwegian adolescents and their parents. Associations of perceived availability, correlations and stability were explored. The longitudinal cohort consist of 1950 adolescents attending 6th/7th (2002) and 9th/10th (2005) grade, and their parents (n = 1647). Only 40% of the adolescents and 60% of the adults reported to have eaten vegetables for dinner yesterday, the reported frequency of vegetables for dinner were 3.7 and 4.1 times/week in 2002 and 2005, respectively, and 4.8 times/week for parents. Heart Rate Variability Recordings are a Valid Non- Invasive Tool for Evaluating Soldiers’ Stress The purpose of the present study was to investigate physiological responses and to evaluate heart rate variability as a non-invasive stress indicator during a 72-hour military field training (MFT). Ten healthy male soldiers (age 20 ± 1 yr.) participated in MFT. They slept approximately 2 h/day and ate only army field rations. During MFT, the soldiers’ mean (±SD) energy expenditure was 4646 ± 674, energy intake 2200 ± 326, and energy deficit (ED) 2405 ± 890 kcal⋅day-1.Throughout the entire training period, serum total testosterone (TES) reduced from 19.0 ± 3.0 to 12.6 ± 6.2 nmol⋅l-1 (p<0.001)
