The role of glycerol transporters in yeast cells in various physiological and stress conditions.

2015

Small and uncharged glycerol is an important molecule for yeast metabolism and osmoadaptation. Using a series of S. cerevisiae BY4741-derived mutants lacking genes encoding a glycerol exporter (Fps1p) and/or importer (Stl1p) and/or the last kinase of the HOG pathway (Hog1p), we studied their phenotypes and various physiological characteristics with the aim of finding new roles for glycerol transporters. Though the triple mutant hog1Δ stl1Δ fps1Δ was viable, it was highly sensitive to various stresses. Our results showed that the function of both Stl1p and Fps1p transporters contributes to the cell ability to survive during the transfer into the state of anhydrobiosis, and that the deletion …

12-month follow-up analysis of a multicenter, randomized, prospective trial in de novo liver transplant recipients (LIS2T) comparing cyclosporine mic…

2006

The LIS2T study was an open-label, multicenter study in which recipients of a primary liver transplant were randomized to cyclosporine microemulsion (CsA-ME) (Neoral) (n = 250) (monitoring of blood concentration at 2 hours postdose) C2 or tacrolimus (n = 245) (monitoring of trough drug blood level [predose]) C0 to compare efficacy and safety at 3 and 6 months and to evaluate patient status at 12 months. All patients received steroids with or without azathioprine. At 12 months, 85% of CsA-ME patients and 86% of tacrolimus patients survived with a functioning graft (P not significant). Efficacy was similar in deceased- and living-donor recipients. Significantly fewer hepatitis C–positive pati…

Dominance of wine Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains over S. kudriavzevii in industrial fermentation competitions is related to an acceleration of nutr…

2019

Grape must is a sugar‐rich habitat for a complex microbiota which is replaced by Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains during the first fermentation stages. Interest on yeast competitive interactions has recently been propelled due to the use of alternative yeasts in the wine industry to respond to new market demands. The main issue resides in the persistence of these yeasts due to the specific competitive activity of S. cerevisiae. To gather deeper knowledge of the molecular mechanisms involved, we performed a comparative transcriptomic analysis during fermentation carried out by a wine S. cerevisiae strain and a strain representative of the cryophilic S. kudriavzevii, which exhibits high genet…

Short- and long-term population dynamical consequences of asymmetric climate change in black grouse

2006

Temporal asymmetry in patterns of regional climate change may jeopardize the match between the proximate and ultimate cues of the timing of breeding. The consequences on short- and long-term population dynamics and trends as well as the underlying mechanisms are, however, often unknown. Using long-term data from Finland, we demonstrate that black grouse ( Tetrao tetrix ) have responded to spring warming by advancing both egg-laying and hatching. However, early summer (the time of hatching) has not advanced, and chicks have to face colder post-hatching conditions. Demonstrating that these conditions are critical to post-hatching survival, we show that chicks are increasingly suffering highe…

European vestibular experiments on the Spacelab-1 mission: 2. Experimental equipment and methods

1986

A series of vestibular experiments were performed in conjunction with the first Spacelab mission, consisting of sets of pre-, in- and postflight tests. A multipurpose experimental apparatus used for the diverse flight and ground tests is presented. Additional apparatus together with the multi-purpose package were used in the baseline data collection facility at the landing site at NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility for the ground tests. The tests involved optokinetic, caloric and mechanical (whole-body or head-alone) stimulation. The latter included linear acceleration in the subject's x, y and z axes, static roll and yaw about an earth-vertical axis. Physiological parameters such as elec…

Oxidative stress tolerance, adenylate cyclase, and autophagy are key players in the chronological life span of Saccharomyces cerevisiae during winema…

2012

Most grape juice fermentation takes place when yeast cells are in a nondividing state called the stationary phase. Under such circumstances, we aimed to identify the genetic determinants controlling longevity, known as the chronological life span. We identified commercial strains with both short (EC1118) and long (CSM) life spans in laboratory growth medium and compared them under diverse conditions. Strain CSM shows better tolerance to stresses, including oxidative stress, in the stationary phase. This is reflected during winemaking, when this strain has an increased maximum life span. Compared to EC1118, CSM overexpresses a mitochondrial rhodanese gene-like gene, RDL2, whose deletion lead…

Design, validation, and testing of an observational tool for technical and tactical analysis in the taekwondo competition at the 2016 Olympic games.

2020

Abstract Observational methodology uses validated observational tools to collect information in sports with multiple variables that interact in the sporting context. Given the importance of data quality for observational tools, the purpose of this study was to design, validate, and test the reliability of a mixed observational instrument combining field formats and category systems for analyzing technical and tactical actions in an Olympic taekwondo (TKD) tournament. The instrument collects information of six criteria and 25 categories of the tactical and technical actions, kicking zone, laterality, kicking leg, guard, and score. A total of 2 374 actions were analyzed from 10 bouts involvin…

Psychophysiologische Aussagebeurteilung: Aktueller Stand und neuere Entwicklungen

2009

“Abnormal Response to Negative Feedback”

2005
