Induction of new metabolites from sponge-associated fungus Aspergillus carneus by OSMAC approach.

Abstract A comparative study on the metabolic profile of the sponge-associated fungus Aspergillus carneus using the OSMAC approach was conducted. The fungal strain was fermented on three different media including solid rice medium with or without sea salt and modified Czapek medium. Three new natural products, isopropylchaetominine (1), isoterrelumamide A (2) and 5′-epi-averufanin (3), together with fourteen known compounds (4–17) were isolated. The structures of the new compounds were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analysis as well as by HRESIMS. Coupling tyrosol, quercetin or ferulic acid and electron beam irradiation to cross-link chitosan–gelatin films: A structure–function approach

International audience; Marine industry by-products, chitosan and fish gelatin, entrapping natural antioxidants (ferulic acid, quercetin and tyrosol) were used to prepare edible active films by casting. In the last decade, the interest toward the formulation of polymer films for cultural heritage protection continuously grew, and these films must be imperatively transparent, removable, and should not react/interact with surface of the artworks. Anastomotic leakage is a frequent complication of intestinal surgery and a major source of surgical morbidity. Influence of low methoxyl pectin gel textures and in vitro release of rutin from calcium pectinate beads.

This study described the preparation and characterization of low methoxyl pectin (LMP) gels and beads for controlled release applications. The rheological characterization of the various formulations was proposed. Then the mechanical and morphological characterizations of beads were determined. Finally, the controlled release studies taking rutin as a model drug was evaluated. The results showed that Young's modulus values of non-amidated LMP gels decrease when adding up to 15% sorbitol. Calcium pectinate beads loaded with rutin are about 600 μm, oblong shaped with dense matrix. Maltose-conjugated chitosans induce macroscopic gelation of pectin solutions at neutral pH

Injectable polymer scaffolds are particularly attractive for guided tissue growth and drug/cell delivery with minimally invasive intervention. In the present work, "all-polymeric" gelling systems based on pectins and water-soluble maltose-conjugated chitosans (CM) have been developed. How composition and process parameters affect volatile active compounds in biopolymer films

Abstract Active edible films based on chitosan and containing an active aroma compound have been investigated. The influence of the composition of the film forming solution (solvent, plasticizers, nanoparticles, emulsifiers and aroma traps) and process parameters (temperature and viscosity) on drying kinetics, water content, colour, aroma compound retention and partition coefficient was studied. Results coming from rheological analysis clearly suggest that in SEBS-g-MA-based nanocomposites, containing high amount of o-LDH, the formation of strong interactions between the dispersed nanoparticles and maleic functionalities of matrix occurs. A GC-HRMS analytical method for the determination of 60 migrant substances, including aldehydes, ketones, phthalates and other plasticizers, phenol derivatives, acrylates, and methacrylates, in plastic food contact materials (FCM) has been developed and validated.
