Social media influencer: a new hybrid professionalism in the age of platform capitalism?
2023
International audience; Chapter 13 Social media influencer: a new hybrid professionalism in the age of platform capitalism? by P. Sedda and O. Husson, analyses the way social media influencers, acting in the context of communities of practice, participate in redefining professionalism and professional practices in marketing and communications fields while promoting social values or advocating for a cause of public interest. Using a methodological approach based on interviews and ethnographic observation, the study considers the influencer as a specific case of “hybrid professionalism” (Noordegraaf 2007) in which quantitative performance criteria, prescribed by platforms, are combined with c…
«Facebook credits» e commercializzazione di beni virtuali per social games: l’abuso di posizione dominante alla prova di un mercato con piattaforma p…
2012
The Social Networks themselves don’t satisfy the minimal requirements needed to make a classical market. They are, in fact, just a background for gratuitous relations between (social) users, within a complex network. It’s nonetheless possible to look a the social networks also as an indispensable virtual infrastructure (a platform) for the functioning of classical markets, collateral to their own core business: the market of virtual gifts to be used within the social network, the market for apps. for social network and so on, wich is to say typical examples of multisided platform markets, whose functioning rests on network effects, network externalities. Within such a framework the Author e…
Sabiedrības attieksme pret iepazīšanos internetā: “Tinder” gadījums Latvijas Universitātes studentu vidū
2021
Behind the scenes of artificial intelligence: a study of micro-work platforms in France
2019
Este artículo es una versión resumida del informe “Le Micro-travail en France. Derrière l’automatisation de nouvelles précarités au travail?» This article is a summarized version of the report "Le Micro-travail en France. Derrière l’automatisation de nouvelles précarités au travail?" .; International audience; Micro-work internet services allocate small, standardized tasks of data generation and annotation to crowds of providers. The outputs are mainly used to produce artificial intelligence solutions. It is an exemplary instance of the “platformization” of the economy, and of the transformations of labour that digital technologies bring about. To uncover the conditions under which micro-wo…
Leveraging Users' Likes in a Video Streaming P2P Platform
2014
This paper investigates how a p2p television platform can take advantage of the presence of frequent channel viewers to grant them a more satisfying service than to less regular spectators. The idea we explore is to learn beforehand about the users' interests, in order to cluster them in groups that display different behaviors; then, the neighborhood creation strategy and video chunk scheduling algorithm of the overlay is altered, with the aim of serving frequent spectators in a privileged manner, providing them with a faster access to the selected channel without overly penalizing less habitual customers. An analytical model is developed, to capture the difference in startup delay that the…
From’Innov: a new technology to obtain aroma in solubilized soft-cheese
2023
The dairy platform of the STLO, Rennes, developed an innovative technology and more sustainable cheese making process (INRAE patent, From’Innov, WO2016108024). This technology consists of mixing a texture matrix obtained by ultrafiltration with one or more aromatic matrix. The latter is innovative: it allows obtaining a maximum of aroma in a short time, less than a few days. The principle is to grow each of microorganisms in an optimized middle with essential nutrients, optimal pH and temperature, and O2 if necessary. After adjusting the pH and temperature of the mix, we proceed with the coagulation then the molding, and the next day the demolding. The cheese is ready and contains the expec…
Extensional deformations during Neogene chain building in Sicily
2010
ABSTRACT In the Madonie-Nebrodi Mts (Northern Sicily belt) both Mesozoic carbonate platform/basin-derived deformed successions and Neogene foredeep deposits outcrop. Thrust sheets piled-up southwards in thin-skin piggy-back sequence. The chain building process began during the Oligo-Miocene. The syntectonic deposits involved in the compressional tectonics give evidence that syn-sedimentary extensional faults developed during fold nucleation and amplification. Syn-sedimentary extensional faults affect the foredeep strata at different stratigraphic levels, which are bounded by unconformities. Normal faults and bedding show constant cut-off relationships and are progressively tilted youngwards…
Crowdsourcing as a mode of open innovation: Exploring drivers of success of a multisided platform through system dynamics modelling
2020
This article aims to explore drivers of success of a crowdsourcing platform. The study conceptualizes crowdsourcing as a mode of open innovation and places such a concept within the context of the sharing economy. Upon this framework, the paper analyses the case of InnoCentive, a successful crowdsourcing platform where innovation-driven organizations search for solutions to their R&D tasks. The system dynamics model frames main InnoCentive business processes and offers a causal perspective on the relationships between platform performance—in terms of users base—and resources structure. The discussion on simulation outputs is carried out through a dynamic performance management view of p…
Design principles for collaboration platforms for open education
2015
Increasing the current low uptake of Open Education Resources (OER) is a key challenge for researchers and practitioners in the field. User studies have shown that collaboration is a main success factor for successful open educational activities. However, effective collaboration in open educational contexts requires well planned processes and platforms supporting collaboration, in particular in physically distributed settings. We have been investigating the value of such platforms, their main features and user requirements to enable collaboration from immature ideas to completed resources. We used quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect insights from potential users of such…
Value Creation and Evolution of a Value Network: A Longitudinal Case Study on a Platform-as-a-Service Provider
2014
Current research on cloud computing emphasizes the important role of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) providers. However, little is known about how PaaS providers can offer value to the content providers and firms operating the platform. The findings demonstrate how a small PaaS provider in the cloud gaming market was able to develop a strong position in the value network by offering direct and indirect value to its partners. The findings also reveal how the firm developed its value network over fourteen years, from a complex network with several actors to a very simple value network which included only partners of prime importance. peerReviewed
