Protein dynamical transition vs. liquid-liquid phase transition in protein hydration water

2013

In this work, we compare experimental data on myoglobin hydrated powders from elastic neutron scattering, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. Our aim is to obtain new insights on the connection between the protein dynamical transition, a fundamental phenomenon observed in proteins whose physical origin is highly debated, and the liquid-liquid phase transition (LLPT) possibly occurring in protein hydration water and related to the existence of a low temperature critical point in supercooled water. Our results provide a consistent thermodynamic/dynamic description which gives experimental support to the LLPT hypothesis and further reveals how fundamental …

Prognostic role of soluble PD-1 and BTN2A1 in overweight melanoma patients treated with nivolumab or pembrolizumab: finding the missing links in the …

2023

Individual response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is currently unpredictable in patients with melanoma. Recent findings highlight a striking improvement in the clinical outcomes of overweight/obese patients treated with ICIs, which seems driven, at least in part, by programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)-mediated T-cell dysfunction. A putative role of butyrophilins (BTNs) is under investigation as a novel mechanism of cancer immune evasion and obesity-associated inflammation. This study investigates the role of baseline plasma levels of soluble PD-1 (sPD-1), soluble programmed cell death ligand 1 (sPD-L1), BTN2A1 (sBTN2A1), BTN3A1 (sBTN3A1), along with body mass index (BMI), as pr…

Change-point estimation in piecewise constant regression models with random effects

2014

We propose an iterative algorithm to estimate change-points in general regression models. The algorithm avoids grid search to obtain maximum likelihood estimates, and thus it guarantees moderate computational time regardless of the sample size and the number of change-points to be estimated. Furthermore, it allows estimation in random effects models, where grid search is unfeasible. We present the proposed approach in practice by analyzing variations of lung functionality on a sample of transplant recipients.

Courbe d'une fraction rationnelle et courbes de Bézier à points massiques

2019

Modelling polynomial curves or arcs with Bezier curves can be seen as a basis conversion not so easy for the rational curves. The classical representation of Rational curves based on controlled points with non negative weights as in NURBS does not cover all rational curves. This can be fixed by using the rational Bezier representation by mass points that are weighted points with negative or null weights. The curve of any rational function includes arcs denoted as connex components. These curves and their asymptotic lines are here modelled by the use of mass control points. The asymptotic lines are described by a point that are one weighted point or a vector. An algorithm proposes to represe…

Statistical Picking of Multivariate Waveforms

2022

In this paper, we propose a new approach based on the fitting of a generalized linear regression model in order to detect points of change in the variance of a multivariate-covariance Gaussian variable, where the variance function is piecewise constant. By applying this new approach to multivariate waveforms, our method provides simultaneous detection of change points in functional time series. The proposed approach can be used as a new picking algorithm in order to automatically identify the arrival times of P- and S-waves in different seismograms that are recording the same seismic event. A seismogram is a record of ground motion at a measuring station as a function of time, and it typica…

Use of two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography for the components study of poly(adenosine diphosphate ribose)

1990

Two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography on cellulose plates has been used for separating and quantifying the three adenosine derivatives: AMP, phosphoribosyl AMP (PRAMP), and (PR)2AMP obtained by venom phosphodiesterase digestion of poly(ADP-ribose). In vitro synthesized polymer, up to 300 derivatives in length were studied. Some parameters of the complexity of poly(ADP-ribose) could be deduced from our results: (i) The first branching point appears in fragments of approximately 21 derivatives in length. (ii) The branching points are located at regular distances of approximately 41 derivatives from each other.

Points massiques, courbes de Bézier quadratiques et coniques : un état de l'art

2014

It is well known quadratic Bézier curves define conics. The use of massic points permits to define a semi-conic in the Euclidean plane. Moreover, from a given quadratic Bézier curve, we can determine the properties of the underlying conic. Moreover, the choice of an adequat non-degenerate indefinite quadratic form permits to see the non-degenerate central conic as an unitary circle.

Second order optimality conditions with applications

2007

International audience; The aim of this article is to present the algorithm to compute the first conjugate point along a smooth extremal curve. Under generic assump- tions, the tra jectory ceases to be optimal at such a point. An implementation of this algorithm, called cotcot, is available online and based on recent devel- opments in geometric optimal control. It is applied to analyze the averaged optimal transfer of a satellite between elliptic orbits.
