From the Metropolitan Areas to the Post-metropolitan Dimension

This chapter introduces a description of the two main areas that will be discussed throughout the book: the metropolitan region of Palermo and South-Eastern Sicily. The chapter starts with a socio-economic analysis describing the characteristics of demography, employment and income in these two parts of Sicily, by comparing them to the situation of other areas in Italy. A spatial analysis of housing and land use complements the socio-economic outlook. Each section describes the most consolidated trends in these areas, but also discusses the most innovative changes and the challenges Sicily has been facing over the years.

The subject of the article, which makes reference to pugna spiritualis - the topos that was popular in the old literature and to speculum - the characteristic form of writing in the 16* century, is discussed on the basis of selected sermons by Fabian Birkowski (devoted to annual holidays) and his Latin orations about saints. The model of knighthood that was defined by the baroque preacher as miles pauperculus is presented through the biographies of holly monks. The article address the problem of limiting the rights of Protestants and other non-Catholic Christian denominations during the reigns of two kings from the Wettin dynasty - King Augustus II (1697-1733). The process started as early as the second half of the 17th century, but it was fully accomplished in the years 1717-1736. In the article the author discussed the resolutions of the sejms and other legal acts introduced at that time, the aim of which was to eliminate dissenters from public life. The Polish monarchs were inert towards the process. It was the rulers of non - Catholic European states (Prussia, Russia and Great Britain) that helped Protestants an Orthodox Christans in Poland

Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot iedzīvotāju informētību par medicīniskajām ierīcēm, kuru sastāvā ir bišu produkti, un uzzināt, kuras no Latvijā reģistrētajām medicīniskajām ierīcēm ir vispieprasītākās iedzīvotāju vidū. Ks. Karol Koziołek, proboszcz parafii w Grabinie koło Prudnika, to jeden z czołowych działaczy polskiego ruchu narodowego na Śląsku Opolskim. W 1928 r. został posłem do sejmiku prowincjonalnego. Ubiegał się także, chociaż bezskutecznie, o mandat do sejmu pruskiego i parlamentu Rzeszy Niemieckiej. W latach 1930–1935 sprawował funk-cję prezesa Dzielnicy I Związku Polaków w Niemczech.
