Updated Field Synopsis and Systematic Meta-Analyses of Genetic Association Studies in Cutaneous Melanoma: The MelGene Database

We updated a field synopsis of genetic associations of cutaneous melanoma (CM) by systematically retrieving and combining data from all studies in the field published as of August 31, 2013. Data were available from 197 studies, which included 83,343 CM cases and 187,809 controls and reported on 1,126 polymorphisms in 289 different genes. International audience; The main objective of this study was to assess the impact of the application of an antagonistic strain of Trichoderma atroviride on the native microbial soil communities. The structures of the fungal and bacterial communities were assessed by T-RFLP (terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism) method, based on T-RFLP analysis of 18S and 16S rRNA genes, respectively. Direct Identification of Each Specific Mutation in Codon 12 and 13 of ci-ki-ras2 by SSCP Analysis

We compared the SSCP behaviour of the DNA fragments containing c-ki-ras 2 wild type 12 and 13 codons or each of the 12 possible point mutated sequences in these two codons. We found that a single electrophoresis condition was sufficient to distinguish each specific mutation from the other 11 and from the wild type sequence. This observation makes it possible to identify each specific mutation directly by SSCP without any need for reamplification and sequencing.

Abstract The aging of certain white wines is dependent on the presence of yeast strains that develop a biofilm on the wine surface after the alcoholic fermentation. These strains belong to the genus Saccharomyces and are called flor yeasts. These strains possess distinctive characteristics compared with Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermenting strain. The most important one is their capacity to form a biofilm on the air–liquid interface of the wine. The concept of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as an emerging opportunistic pathogen is relatively new and it is due to an increasing number of human infections during the past 20 years. There are still few studies addressing the mechanisms of infection of this yeast species. A new PCR-based method has been developed to monitor inoculated wine fermentations. The method is based on the variation in the number and position of introns in the mitochondrial gene COX1. Oligonucleotide primers homologous to the regions flanking the Saccharomyces cerevisiae COX1 introns have been designed and tested for S. cerevisiae wine yeast strain differentiation. How genomic selection enables species to adapt to divergent environments is a fundamental question in ecology and evolution. We investigated the genomic signatures of local adaptation in Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua L.) along a natural salinity gradient, ranging from 35‰ in the North Sea to 7‰ within the Baltic Sea. By utilizing a 12 K SNPchip, we simultaneously assessed neutral and adaptive genetic divergence across the Atlantic cod genome. The present study was conducted to investigate serotype distribution, antimicrobial resistance patterns, carriage of class 1 integron, and clonality of Salmonella strains isolated from patients aged 0-12 years in Tehran, Iran, during 2007-2008. A total of 139 Salmonella isolates were studied. Salmonella serotypes Enteritidis, Infantis, and Typhimurium included 84.9% of isolates, Enteritidis accounting for 41.7%. The most prevalent resistances were to doxycycline (64.7%), nalidixic acid (61.2%), tetracycline (51.8%), and streptomycin (42.8%). Fifty-three (38.1%) isolates contained class 1 integron. Diagnosis of flavobacteriosis by direct amplification of rRNA genes

A broad-range bacterial PCR method with universal 16S rDNA targeting primers and bacterial cultivation was used to identify the putative pathogen in flavobacterial outbreaks. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis and sequencing of the partial 16S rDNA PCR products of 10 skin samples and 10 representative isolates derived from the same fish specimens revealed differences between direct molecular and cultivation-based analysis.
