N-([ 18 F]fluoroalkyl)-N-nitroso-4-methyl-benzensulfonamides [n-alkyl = (-CH 2 ) [ 18,19 F]F, n=2-4)] were synthesized in radiochemical yields ranging from 75-90% to provide new secondary labelling precursors for the syntheses of 18 F-labelled compounds. Preliminary decomposition studies utilizing the corresponding non-radioactive 19 F-compounds as well as the bromo containing analogous compounds were performed to evaluate their stability regarding temperature and basicity of the labelling medium. The relationship between feed intake behaviour with intramuscular fat, cholesterol and fatty acid composition in pork

The aim of this study was to investigate the phenotypic relationship between feed intake (FI) characteristics with intramuscular fat, cholesterol and fatty acid composition in pork. Data were available on 202 Duroc barrows. Intramuscular fatness was positively correlated with a higher percentage of saturated (SFA) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), a lower percentage of polyunsaturated (PUFA), omega-3 (ω3) and omega-6 (ω6) fatty acids, and a lower ω6/ω3 and P:S ratio (p < 0.05). Faster growth resulted in a higher level of SFA and a lower level of ω3 fatty acids (p < 0.05). Liquid/Gas and Liquid/Liquid Phase Equilibria of the System Water/Bovine Serum Albumin

The thermodynamic behavior of the system H2O/BSA was studied at 25 °C within the entire composition range: vapor pressure measurements via head space sampling gas chromatography demonstrate that the attainment of equilibria takes more than one week. A miscibility gap was detected via turbidity and the coexisting phases were analyzed. At 6 °C the two phase region extends from ca. 34 to 40 wt % BSA; it shrinks upon heating. The polymer rich phase is locally ordered, as can be seen under the optical microscope using crossed polarizers. Interactions between non-volatile water-soluble molecules and aroma compounds in Camembert cheese

Abstract Interactions between selected aroma compounds and non-volatile water-soluble molecules were studied using dynamic headspace-gas chromatography. A model water-soluble extract (MWSE), previously constructed in gustatory and physico-chemical accordance with the crude Camembert cheese WSE, allowed the contribution of non-volatiles to the headspace composition of volatile compounds to be assessed. The presence of the MWSE increased the headspace concentration of 2-heptanone, 1-octen-3-ol and 3-methylbutanol, showing that these three volatile compounds were released by MWSE. The determination of the DNA base composition in 19 species of adriatic sponges with high-pressure liquid cation-exchange chromatography.

Abstract The (adenine + thymine)/(guanine + cytosine) base ratios of 19 species of adriatic sponges have been determined by high-pressure liquid cation-exchange chromatography. The base ratios vary from 1.49 (Mycale massa) to 0.63 (Hippospongia communis) according to an (A+T) content of 59.7 and 38.6 mol%, respectively. The DNAs of sponges of the order Keratosa showed marked differences in their (A +T) contents (39.5 to 58.8 mol%) whereas those of Tetractinellida and Halichondrina were nearly identical (39.3 to 40.8 and 49.5 to 49.8 mol%, respectively). Polymer-coated reversed-phase packings with controlled hydrophobic properties

Abstract We have designed and synthesized novel reversed-phase packings of non-porous and porous polymethacrylate-coated silicas. By varying the hydrophobicity of the polymer coating, selective unfolding of polypeptides may be achieved, thus enabling manipulation of the chromatographic profile. This study characterizes these packings through their employment for separations of model synthetic peptides of defined secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure. Distribution of Δ5-olefinic acids in the triacylglycerols fromPinus koraiensisandPinus pinasterseed oils

Purified triacylglycerols (TAG) fromPinus koraiensis andP. pinaster seed oils, which are interesting and commercially available sources of Δ5-olefinic acids (i.e.,cis-5,cis-9,cis-12 18:3 andcis-5,cis-11,cis-14 20:3 acids) were fractionated by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, and each fraction was examined by capillary gas-liquid chromatography for its fatty acid composition. A structure could be assigned to more than 92% of TAG from both oils. In both instances, ca. 48% of the TAG were shown to contain at least one δ5-olefinic acid. Abstract Cloud point curve, critical composition and several critical coexistence curves were measured at 25°C for the ternary system poly- l -(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) — where both polymers exhibit broad molecular weight distributions — and the common solvent chloroform. In contrast to the situation encountered in the absence of the second polymer both branches of the critical coexistence curves are located without any doubt inside the miscibility gap as defined by the cloud point curve. Introducing biobased polymers from renewable sources for use as high-performance thermoplastics with high demands on mechanical rigidity, transparency, thermal stability, as well as good processability, is a significant challenge. In the present work we have designed and prepared a rigid biobased bis-spirocylic diol by di-cycloketalization of a bicyclic diketone (cis-bicyclo[3.3.0]octane-3,7-dione, obtained from citric acid) using trimethylolpropane.
