Characterization of non-polar ZnO layers with positron annihilation spectroscopy

We applied positron annihilation spectroscopy to study the effect of growth polarity on the vacancy defects in ZnO grown by metal-organic vapor phase deposition on sapphire. Both c-plane and a-plane ZnO layers were measured, and Zn vacancies were identified as the dominant defects detected by positrons. The results are qualitatively similar to those of earlier experiments in GaN. The Zn vacancy concentration decreases in c-plane ZnO by almost one order of magnitude (from high 10 cm−3 to low 10 cm−3) when the layer thickness is increased from 0.5 to 2 μm. Positron Annihilation in Medical Substances of Insulin

Positrons lifetimes were measured in medical substances of insulin (human and animal), differing as far as the degree of purity and time of their activity in the organism are concerned. In all of the cases the spectrum of positron lifetime was distributed into three components, with the long-life component ranging from 1.8 to 2.08 ns and the intensity taking on values from 18 to 24%. Making use of Tao–Eldrup model, the average radius of the free volume, in which o-Ps annihilated, and the degree of filling in the volume were determined. Computational analysis of positron experiments

A number of applications of the calculational scheme developed by Puska and Nieminen (1982-3) are reported and the predictive power of the scheme is substantiated. Effects on positron parameters of relaxation and of N or H impurities in vacancies in Mo are calculated and employed to analyse recent experiments. Predictions pertaining to H decoration of vacancies in Al and Ni suggest the use of positron lifetime studies of these systems. Positron responses to submicroscopic vacancy clusters decorated with Kr and to large Kr bubbles in Cu are calculated and used to analyse recent experiments. Evaluation of [11C]Metergoline as a PET Radiotracer for 5HTR in Nonhuman Primates

Metergoline, a serotonin receptor antagonist, was labeled with carbon-11 in order to evaluate its pharmacokinetics and distribution in non-human primates using positron emission tomography. [{sup 11}C]Metergoline had moderate brain uptake and exhibited heterogeneous specific binding, which was blocked by pretreatment with metergoline and altanserin throughout the cortex. Non-specific binding and insensitivity to changes in synaptic serotonin limit its potential as a PET radiotracer. However, the characterization of [{sup 11}C]metergoline pharmacokinetics and binding in the brain and peripheral organs using PET improves our understanding of metergoline drug pharmacology.
TeV particle direct detection in space - Recent results from the DAMPE mission

Since its successful launch to a Low Earth Orbit in December 2015, the DAMPE (DArk Matter Particle Explorer) satellite mission has been preforming excellently, which allows the experiment to collect a large high quality data sample of high energy cosmic rays directly in space. With a relatively large acceptance, a thick BGO homogeneous calorimeter, and a precise silicon tracker, DAMPE is designed to measure multi-TeV particles in space with unprecedented precision. A first measurement of electron plus positron total flux up to 4.6 TeV based on the first 18 months of data has been published. Abstract The synthesis of the novel glucose conjugated O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) inhibitor 2-amino-6-(2-[18F]fluoro-pyridine-4-ylmethoxy)-9-(octyl-α- d -glucosyl)-purine is reported. This compound might serve as a radiotracer for the determination of the MGMT status of tumour tissue.
