Addressing Student Motivation, Self-regulation, and Engagement in Flipped Classroom to Decrease Boredom
2016
The interplay teacher regulation and student self- regulation of learning is an important topic in contemporary theories of teaching and learning. The pervasiveness of the boredom experienced by many students, along with its deleterious effects, clearly implies that educators, and teachers responsible for the design of academic settings should pay more attention to this emotion. With regard to the prevention or reduction of boredom, the present findings suggest that specific measures could focus on increasing the perceived values of activities in achievement settings. This study used mixed methodologies, including a student perception inventory and observations, to investigate whether teach…
Pierre Bourdieu e le pratiche sociali
2022
Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) is considered one of the greatest sociologists of the contemporary era. A scholar of many interests, as can be seen from the number of his works, the breadth of the topics he dealt with, and the breadth of the theoretical-epistemological issues he debated with the sociological scientific community, he represents the example of a French intellectual who combines an intense research life with an equally intense presence in the public debate concerning controversial issues. Born into an underprivileged family (his father was a sharecropper later employed as a postal worker) in a small town in southern France, he trained at the École Normal Supérieure under Luis Alth…
Bridging the gap between research and practice : using phenomenographic findings to develop training for career practitioners
2021
AbstractThis study contends that phenomenography offers both a useful research method and practical tools for developing education and training for career practitioners. After introducing the basic principles of phenomenography, the study reviews previous research on its potential in developing pedagogical practices. It explores how the phenomenographic findings were utilized to design an online skills training programme for career practitioners. The study finds that phenomenographic research serves three practical pedagogical purposes: (1) revealing how learners understand certain concepts or phenomena, (2) elucidating how these understandings differ; and (3) identifying critical aspects i…
Cartographie des restes osseux et conservation différentielle dans l'amas coquillier d'Ouessant "Mez Notariou": du Bronze moyen à la période romaine
2008
This article addresses the impacts of differential preservation in an alkaline shell midden (fig. 1) overlying an acid soil which does not allow bone to survive. This midden accumulated over an extended period and displays unusual traits attributable to practices of a ritual nature (Le Bihan et Méniel, 2002). Excavation extended to approximately 1000 square metres (fig. 2). Bone was collected on a quarter-metre grid by individual context (fig. 3). Some 35,000 animal and bird bones were recovered; fish bones, which were very numerous, are presently still under study. Consideration of the entire bone assemblage (fig. 8) indicates that the principal deposition occurred along the SW/NE axis of …
Linee guida per la valutazione della resilienza delle foreste Mediterranee ai cambiamenti climatici [Guidelines for assessing the resilience of Medit…
2017
We have defined optimal management models for improving or strengthening the resilience of forest environments: in particular, five best management practices aiming at improving the Mediterranean forests resilience with reference to the desertification risk. The 5 Best ManagementPractices are: BMP1 - Actions favoring mixing of species and hydrogeological stability of forests; BMP2 - Renaturalization of forest plantations; BMP3 - Remedial measures and restoration of degraded forests; BMP4 - Actions aimed at enhancing complex structural forests; BMP5 - Actions favoring connectivity in agro-forestry systems. The best management practices have been then applied adapting them to 16 different int…
Desmantling patriarchy: political practices and Spanish feminist movement slogans in the democratic transition
2010
2020
The Obernai ’Neuen Brunnen’ necropolis in Lower Alsace yielded 29 tombs attributed to the Middle Neolithic. It was probably founded during the Early Grossgartach, at the end of the 48th century BC, and abandoned during the Roessen, perhaps during the Early Roessen, and in any case before the middle of the 46th century BC. The most original feature of this mortuary assemblage is that most of the tombs belong to the Planig-Friedberg period (the last stylistic phase of the Grossgartach) and the Roessen. The mortuary practices of these periods are still poorly known in the region. The necropolis is composed of three spatial groups, the most ancient of which contains all the Grossgartach tombs a…
Contribution to development of microbial bioindicators for assessing the impact of agricultural pratices on soil
2015
Soil is the support of agricultural production. It performs many functions essential to the provision of ecosystem services necessary for the well-being of our societies. Soil physicochemical and biological properties have been altered by the development of intensive agriculture while it is a non-renewable resource, revealing the need to develop new management practices suitable for the sustainability of soil quality. This also marked the entry into the “Agroecology” era, which promotes the development of new agricultural systems optimizing services provided by biodiversity to reduce the use of inputs and energy use. To achieve this aim, the development of a range of indicators to assess th…
Long Term Efficiency Analysis of Infiltration Trenches Subjected to Clogging
2018
Abstract: In recent years, limitations linked to traditional urban drainage schemes have been pointed out and new approaches were developed introducing more natural methods for retaining and/or disposing of stormwater. Such practices include infiltration and storage tanks in order to reduce the peak flow and retain part of the polluting components. The impact of such practices on stormwater quantity and quality is not easily assessable because of the complexity of physical and chemical processes involved. In such cases, integrated urban drainage models may play a relevant role providing tools for long term analysis. In this study, the effect of the clogging phenomenon has been assessed by m…
Child-centered and teacher-directed practices in relation to calculation and word problem solving skills
2019
Abstract This study examined transactional associations between classroom-level math skills and teaching practices. Participants were 523 children from 31 classrooms. Math skills were assessed three times. Teaching practices were observed in Grades 1 and 3. Child-centered practices promoted subsequent calculation skills whereas teacher-directed practices were associated with a lower level of calculation skills. Higher problem-solving skills at Grade 2 predicted more child-centered practices and less teacher-directed practices in third grade. Moreover, calculation skills mediated the effect of child-centered practices on problem-solving skills. The results suggest that teaching practices and…
