Barn som er utsatt for omsorgssvikt - hvordan oppdage dem? : en kvalitativ studie som belyser hvordan barnehageansatte oppdager barn som er utsatt fo…

2014

Masteroppgave i psykisk helsearbeid ME504 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: Suspected child abuse reports to Child Protective Services (CPS) made by pre-school teachers has been on the rise. Consequently, that raises the question about whether the teachers' knowledge or awareness of child abuse or the actual number of children who have been abused has increased. Pre-school teachers, as many other professionals who work with children on a daily basis, face many challenges in their work place. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to describe the pre-school teachers' experiences with child abuse, including how they identify children who have been abused and how they determine whether they…

Behavioral and Brain Measures of Morphological Processing in Children With and Without Familial Risk for Dyslexia From Pre-school to First Grade

2021

School-age reading skills are associated with and predicted by preschool-age cognitive risk factors for dyslexia, such as deficits in phonological awareness, rapid automatized naming, letter knowledge, and verbal short-term memory. In addition, evidence exists that problems in morphological information processing could be considered a risk factor for dyslexia. In the present study, 27 children at pre-school age and the same 27 children at first grade age performed a morphological awareness task while their brain responses were measured with magnetoencephalography. Our aim was to examine how derivational morphology in Finnish language, and concomitant accuracy and reaction times are associat…

Determining Factors and Critical Periods in the Formation of Eating Habits: Results from the Habeat Project

2016

Un article correspondant à cette présentation devrait paraître en 2017 dans Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism.Un article correspondant à cette présentation devrait paraître en 2017 dans Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism.; Eating habits form early during childhood and are likely to track until the beginning of adulthood. Thus, understanding the formation of eating habits is important. In the HabEat* project we focused on the development of preferences for vegetables since they are the less liked foods for children. Based on the analyses of data from different European cohorts, HabEat found that breast milk may facilitate the consumption of vegetables in later childhood. HabEat found some e…

Physical fitness in relation to later body composition in pre-school children

2019

Objectives Although physical fitness is considered a marker of health in youth, little is known whether physical fitness in pre-school age is related to later body composition. Thus, this study investigated (i) associations of physical fitness at 4.5 years of age with body composition 12 months later and (ii) whether improvements in physical fitness during the 12-month follow-up were associated with changes in body composition. Design This study included 142 children, measured at 4.5 and 5.5 years, from the control group of the MINISTOP trial. Methods Physical fitness (cardiorespiratory fitness, lower- and upper-body muscular strength and motor fitness) was measured using the PREFIT test ba…

PEDAGOGICAL PROCESS FACILITATING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OF PRE-SCHOOLERS

2019

The research covers analysis of theoretical literature on significance of physical activities in the development of child’s integrity, as it is a well-known fact that child is researcher and his/her activity is manifested through movement. Child gets his first impressions about surrounding world through movement – the more diverse motions are, the more information is acquired, and the more intense is intellectual development thereof. However, quite often pedagogical process does not consider the specific factors facilitating capacity of child’s physical, functional, motion and mental development. To conduct the research, an aim was set to study physical activity of children in pre-school an…

Bērna izpratnes veidošana par veselīgu dzīvesveidu vidējā pirmsskolas vecuma bērniem

2017

2014

Promocijas darba „Pirmsskolas vecuma bērna dialogrunas attīstība rotaļās” mērķis ir izpētīt pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu dialogrunas attīstības sakarības rotaļā, izveidot un empīriski pārbaudīt modeli mērķtiecīgai bērnu dialogrunas sekmēšanai. Pētījuma gaita un tā rezultāti izklāstīti 2 nodaļās un 11 apakšnodaļās. Pirmajā nodaļā veikta dialoga un dialogrunas psiholingvistiskā analīze, atklāta rotaļas būtība un tās nozīme pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu dialogrunas attīstībā. Konstatēts, ka rotaļa rada bērnam daudzveidīgas situācijas, kas jārisina gan ar verbālo (runa), gan neverbālo (mīmika, žesti) līdzekļu palīdzību tā sekmējot bērna dialogrunas prasmi. Izveidots un teorētiski pamatots pedagoģiskās d…

THE PEDAGOGICAL EVALUATION OF THE RESPONSIVENESS OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS

2020

With the guidelines for pre-school education coming into effect, a paradigm change has occurred in Latvia, focusing on a child-centred educational process. Contradictions can be observed in the professional training of pre-school teachers. Clearly, pre-school educators ensure the transfer of values to the next generation and the stability of the system of education; nevertheless, their activity is often focused on imparting reproductive knowledge and skills and following familiar algorithms and stereotypes. The innovative trend – the development of child’s social and emotional skills – is not always dominant in the work of pre-school teachers. The aim of the research is to analyse the views…
