Sur le fonctionnement du Journal de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées entre 1917 et 1937 d'après des lettres inédites de Henri Villat à Robert de Mon…
2011
We are interested in the Journal of Mathématiques Pures and Appliquées (JMPA) over the period 1917-1937. From the end of 1921 , two mathematicians worked to its publication, Henri Villat as editor in chief and Robert Montessus Ballore as associate editor. Through unpublished letters , we descrive the operation of the JMPA after WWI.
Limits on entropic uncertainty relations
2010
We consider entropic uncertainty relations for outcomes of the measurements of a quantum state in 3 or more mutually unbiased bases (MUBs), chosen from the standard construction of MUBs in prime dimension. We show that, for any choice of 3 MUBs and at least one choice of a larger number of MUBs, the best possible entropic uncertainty relation can be only marginally better than the one that trivially follows from the relation by Maassen and Uffink for 2 bases.
First measurement of f′2 (1525) production in Z0 hadronic decays
1996
The inclusive production of the f(2)'(1525) in hadronic Z(0) decays has been studied in data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors were important tools in the identification of the decay f(2)'(1525) --> K+K-. The average number of f(2)(')(1525) produced per hadronic Z decay, [f(2)'] = 0.020 +/- 0.005 (stat) +/- 0.006 (syst), and the momentum distribution of the f(2)'(1525) have both been measured. The mass and width of the f(2)'(1525) are found to be [M(f2)'] = 1535 +/- 5 (stat) +/- 4 (syst) MeV/c(2). [Gamma(f2)'] = 60 +/- 20 (stat) +/- 19 (syst) MeV/c(2)
Semipredictable dynamical systems
2015
A new class of deterministic dynamical systems, termed semipredictable dynamical systems, is presented. The spatiotemporal evolution of these systems have both predictable and unpredictable traits, as found in natural complex systems. We prove a general result: The dynamics of any deterministic nonlinear cellular automaton (CA) with $p$ possible dynamical states can be decomposed at each instant of time in a superposition of $N$ layers involving $p_{0}$, $p_{1}$,... $p_{N-1}$ dynamical states each, where the $p_{k\in \mathbb{N}}$, $k \in [0, N-1]$ are divisors of $p$. If the divisors coincide with the prime factors of $p$ this decomposition is unique. Conversely, we also prove that $N$ CA w…
METAGENOMIC ANALYSIS OF PHYTOPHTHORA DIVERSITY IN NURSERIES OF POTTED ORNAMENTAL SPECIES.
2015
The genetic diversity of Phytophthora was investigated in soil and root samples of potted ornamental and fruit tree plants collected in nurseries located in Apulia and Calabria (Southern Italy) using metagenomic approaches based on Phytophthora genus specific primers. PCR amplicons containing the ITS1 region of the rDNA were sequenced using both a conventional cloning and Sanger sequencing approach and a 454 pyrosequencing protocol. All sequences were accurately analyzed with an appropriate software and used as barcode for species identification utilizing a validated ITS database. The cloning/Sanger sequencing approach enabled the identification of nine different Phytophthora taxa (P. nicot…
Acyl Transferase Domains of Putative Polyketide Synthase (PKS) Genes in Aspergillus and Penicillium Producers of Ochratoxin A and the Evaluation of P…
2009
Fungal polyketide synthases (PKS) are responsible for the biosynthesis of several mycotoxins and other secondary metabolites. PKS genes in ochratoxin producing species from Aspergillus and Penicillum genera have been identified using a degenerate primer pair developed for the acyl transferase (AT) domain of fungal PKSs. Sequences of AT domains were aligned and analyzed using phylogenetic methods. The AT domain sequences appeared to be specific for a particular type of fungal PKSs and were related to PKSs involved in different mycotoxin biosynthesis pathways, including ochratoxin A. We have also developed primers suitable for amplifying AT domain sequences in strains belonging to the A. nig…

Synthesis and assembly of virus-like particles of human papillomaviruses type 6 and type 16 in fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe.
1995
AbstractWe have synthesized capsid proteins of human papillomavirus types 6 (HPV 6) and 16 (HPV 16) in fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe and produced virus-like particles (VLP). The capsid proteins were localized in the nucleus by indirect immunofluorescence and cell fractionation analyses. The VLP were produced in both yeast clones synthesizing L1 alone and L1/L2 and purified by sulfato-cellulofine chromatography. Electron microscopic examination showed that these VLP were similar in structure to native HPV particles. Two HPV 16 L1 variants (16 B27L1 and 16 T3L1), isolated from benign cervical samples, produced many more (68- and 14-fold) VLP than the prototype L1 (16 PL1) derived fr…
FOXP2 polymorphisms in patients with schizophrenia.
2005
Abstract Background FOXP2 was described as the first gene involved in our ability to acquire spoken language. The main objective of this study was to compare the distribution of FOXP2 gene polymorphisms between patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls. Methods Two FOXP2 polymorphisms, Intron3a and SNP 923875, and the G→A transition in exon 14 were analysed in 149 patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders according to DSM-IV, as well as in 137 controls. All the patients showed a history of auditory hallucinations. Results The transition G→A at exon 14, detected in all the affected members in KE family, was not found in any of the analyzed samples from patients or cont…
Effect of Prime Type on Lexical Decision Time
1987
The present investigation concerns the issues of the control condition and type of related prime-target relationship operationalization in the lexical-decision paradigm. It is shown that the use of a row of asterisks produces strong inhibitory effects on reaction time to the target relative to a control condition formed with the word “neutro” (“neutral”). The operationalization of prime-target relatedness by means of association of category norms seems equally adequate, although category exemplars do not prime category exemplar targets. Both sets of data are discussed in relation to current research trends using lexical-decision time.
