Predicted temperature-increase-induced global health burden and its regional variability

2019

An increase in the global health burden of temperature was projected for 459 locations in 28 countries worldwide under four representative concentration pathway scenarios until 2099. We determined that the amount of temperature increase for each 100 ppm increase in global CO2 concentrations is nearly constant, regardless of climate scenarios. The overall average temperature increase during 2010–2099 is largest in Canada (1.16 °C/100 ppm) and Finland (1.14 °C/100 ppm), while it is smallest in Ireland (0.62 °C/100 ppm) and Argentina (0.63 °C/100 ppm). [Context]: Species are expected to shift their distributions in response to global environmental changes and additional protected areas are needed to encompass the corresponding changes in the distributions of their habitats. Conservation policies are likely to become obsolete unless they integrate the potential impacts of climate and land-use change on biodiversity.

Reducing the observation error in a WSN through a consensus-based subspace projection

An essential process in a Wireless Sensor Network is the noise mitigation of the measured data, by exploiting their spatial correlation. A widely used technique to achieve this reduction is to project the measured data into a proper subspace. We present a low complexity and distributed algorithm to perform this projection. Vision based attitude and altitude estimation for UAVs in dark environments

This paper presents a system dedicated to the real-time estimation of attitude and altitude for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) under low light and dark environment. This system consists in a fisheye camera, which allows to cover a large field of view (FOV), and a laser circle projector mounted on a fixed baseline. The approach, close to structured light systems, uses the geometrical information obtained by the projection of the laser circle onto the ground plane and perceived by the camera. Tunable-frequency three-dimensional structured illumination microscopy with reduced data-acquisition

The performance of a tunable three-dimensional (3D) structured illumination microscope (SIM) system and its ability to provide simultaneously super-resolution (SR) and optical-sectioning (OS) capabilities are investigated. Numerical results show that the performance of our 3D-SIM system is comparable with the one provided by a three-wave interference SIM, while requiring 40% fewer images for the reconstruction and providing frequency tunability in a cost-effective implementation. Cognitive Overload and Orthographic Errors: When Cognitive Overload Enhances Subject–Verb Agreement Errors. A Study in French Written Language

Three experiments were carried out to test the hypothesis that cognitive overload enhances the occurrence of subject-verb agreement errors in French. Highly educated adults were presented orally with sentences they were required to write down. The sentences were of the types “N1 de N2 V” (Noun 1 of Noun 2 Verb: Le chien des voisins arrive/The neighbours’ dog is arriving) versus “Prl Pr2 V” (Pronoun 1 Pronoun 2 Verb: Il les aime/He likes them). SAMSLAM: Simulated Annealing Monocular SLAM

This paper proposes a novel monocular SLAM approach. For a triplet of successive keyframes, the approach inteleaves the registration of the three 3D maps associated to each image pair in the triplet and the refinement of the corresponding poses, by progressively limiting the allowable reprojection error according to a simulated annealing scheme. This approach computes only local overlapping maps of almost constant size, thus avoiding problems of 3D map growth. It does not require global optimization, loop closure and back-correction of the poses.
