Endo-/exo- and halogen-bonded complexes of conformationally rigid C-ethyl-2-bromoresorcinarene and aromatic N-oxides

2017

The host-guest complexes of conformationally rigid C-ethyl-2-bromoresorcinarene with aromatic N-oxides were studied using single crystal X-ray crystallography. Unlike that of the conformationally more flexible C-ethyl-2-methylresorcinarene, the C-ethyl-2-bromoresorcinarene cavity forms endo-complexes only with the small pyridine-N-oxides, such as pyridine N-oxide, 2-methyl-, 3-methyl- and 4-methylpyrdine N-oxide, and quinoline N-oxide. The larger 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine, 4-phenylpyridine and isoquinoline N-oxide, and 4,4-bipyridine N,N′-dioxide and 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane N,N′-dioxide do not fit into the host cavity. Instead endo-acetone complexes are formed. Remarkably, differing from th…

Synthesis of low density foam shells for inertial confinement fusion experiments

2011

This work deals with the fabrication process of low density foam shells and the sharp control of their shape (diameter, thickness, density, sphericity, non-concentricity). During this PhD we focused on the non-concentricity criterion which has to be lower than 1%. The shells are synthesized using a microencapsulation process leading to a double emulsion and followed by a thermal polymerization at 60°C. According to the literature, three major parameters, the density of the three phases, the deformations of the shells along the process and the kinetics of the polymerization have a direct influence on the shells non-concentricity. The results obtained showed that when the density gap between …

Heptanuclear hydroxo-bridged copper cluster of the dicubane-like type: structural and magnetic characterisations of [Cu7(OH)6Cl2(pn)6(H2O)2](C(CN)3)4…

2002

A new polynuclear copper(II) complex [Cu7(OH)6Cl2- (pn)6(H2O)2](C(CN)3)4Cl2 with hydroxo-bridging ligands has been prepared; the centrosymmetric cluster cation can be described as two Cu4O3Cl distorted cubane units sharing one copper cation. Selective propane oxidation over MoVSbO catalysts. On the preparation, characterization and catalytic behavior of M1 phase

2009

Nb-free (SbO)(2)M(20)O(56) catalysts (M = Mo, V) presenting pure M1 phase have been prepared by a post-synthesis treatment with hydrogen peroxide of a heat-treated MoVSbO mixed metal oxide catalyst previously prepared by hydrothermal method. The characterization of catalysts and their results for propane oxidation suggest that the optimization in the preparation of the M1 phase depends strongly on the washing procedure. The optimal removing of Sb species formed during post-synthesis treatment can explain the improvement in the catalytic activity; while the better selectivity to acrylic acid of the catalysts obtained by post-synthesis treatment can be explained by the elimination of M2 phase…

Roflumilast N-oxide inhibits bronchial epithelial to mesenchymal transition induced by cigarette smoke in smokers with COPD.

2014

Abstract Background Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) is under discussion as a potential mechanism of small airway remodelling in COPD. In bronchial epithelium of COPD and smokers markers of EMT were described. In vitro, EMT may be reproduced by exposing well-differentiated human bronchial epithelial cells (WD-HBEC) to cigarette smoke extract (CSE). EMT may be mitigated by an increase in cellular cAMP. Objective This study explored the effects of roflumilast N-oxide, a PDE4 inhibitor on CSE-induced EMT in WD-HBEC and in primary bronchial epithelial cells from smokers and COPD in vitro. Methods WD-HBEC from normal donors were stimulated with CSE (2.5%) for 72 h in presence of roflum…

Simvastatin Increases the Ability of Roflumilast N-oxide to Inhibit Cigarette Smoke-Induced Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition in Well-differentiat…

2014

Cigarette smoking contributes to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in COPD small bronchi as part of the lung remodeling process. We recently observed that roflumilast N-oxide (RNO), the active metabolite of the PDE4 inhibitor roflumilast, prevents cigarette smoke-induced EMT in differentiated human bronchial epithelial cells. Further, statins were shown to protect renal and alveolar epithelial cells from EMT. To analyze how RNO and simvastatin (SIM) interact on CSE-induced EMT in well-differentiated human bronchial epithelial cells (WD-HBEC) from small bronchi in vitro. Methods: WD-HBEC were stimulated with CSE (2.5%). The mesenchymal markers vimentin, collagen type I and α-SMA, the e…

The re Structure of Cyclopropane

2000

A long-standing controversy regarding the re structure of cyclopropane is resolved by performing high-level quantum chemical calculations and analyzing the experimental rotational constants for C3H6 and C3H4D2 augmented by calculated vibrational corrections. For the latter, a least-squares fit yields the following set of parameters:  re (CC) = 1.5030(10) A, re(CH) = 1.0786(10) A, and αe(HCH) = 114.97(10)°, which compare favorably with both the pure computational result obtained at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVQZ level as well as an earlier estimate of the re structure of cyclopropane based on analysis of gas-phase electron diffraction data. Our results are in rather poor agreement with a structure base…
